This is for all the high school seniors who will graduate in May and be left in this scary world. Here are a few things I have learned thus far in college.
1. You don't have to know what you want to do going into college.
In fact, don't have it all figured out. You'll probably change your mind a couple of times anyway.
2. Don't be afraid to move away from home.
It may turn out to be the best decision you have ever made.
3. On the other hand, don't feel the need to go far away.
Just because everyone else you're graduating with is leaving, doesn't mean you have to, too.
4. It's OK to fail.
College is MUCH harder than high school. You're going to have professors that like you and some that don't. That's OK.
5. Don't forget to call your parents.
If you did indeed move away for college, they miss you. Even if you didn't move away, you're probably always busy with work, school and having a social life so don't forget to talk to your parents.
6. Have fun!
It's OK to put your studying aside for a little bit to have fun
7. You'll question who you are.
That's 100% OK. You're only 17/18. You have the next four years to figure out who you are and who you want to be.
College and the world, in general, is a scary place. These are seven of the things I have learned and I still have so much more to learn.
