Freshman year is one of the craziest times in your college career. Some of the best and worst moments of your life will, most likely, occur during this time. You'll be having loads of fun, but you'll also be making lots of self-discoveries. Here's a list of all the things you shouldn't forget to do during your freshman year:
Meet your neighbors.
Some of the most interesting experiences of college happened while living in a community style dorm. Sharing a bathroom with the people on your floor forced you to get to know them. Some of my best memories from freshman year was with the girls on my floor. Even if you are living in a suite style dorm, I would still suggest finding a way to meet the other people on your floor. There's nothing more convenient then having your best friend right down the hall.
Go Greek.
I know you have probably heard this a lot by now, but joining FSL was hands down one of the best decisions of my life. By being involved in my sorority, I was able to meet hundreds of girls that I shared a bond with. My sisters were always around when I needed them and helped me through some of the hardest times of my life.
Have some kind of plan.
It's okay to be unsure of a major during your freshman year. But you should have some idea of what you would be interested in doing. That way you don't have to go back later and retake gen-eds that were required for your program.
Study!
One of the biggest mistakes I made during my freshman year was not spending enough time in the library. If I had made a point of doing my homework before watching a whole season on Neflix, I wouldn't have had to work so hard to get my GPA back up.
Go to class.
Everyone skips a class or two, but don't let skipping become a habit. During my first semester I took a class where the teacher gave you three unexcused absences and then started deducting points for every class you missed after that. There was a student in my class who had skipped so much her grade was in the negatives at mid term.
Use the Buddy System.
If you are going out, never go alone. It is so important to take a friend with you who can be there if you need help. Before going out make sure your group has discussion about what they want from the night. If your friend tells you she isn't the type to go home with guys at parties, be sure to step in if someone is trying to take advantage of her. You should always look out for each other.
Don't be afraid to have fun.
While grades are really important, it's also important to make time to enjoy your freshman year. Be sure to get out there and make new friends and join organizations. Spend time doing what makes you happy.
