Its that time of year again, Welcome Week!
Welcome week is basically the New Years for universities nationwide. There are more activities and events going on than one can possibly get to, people are everywhere, and that feeling of starting something new begins to fully set in.
Michigan State is a leader of welcome week activities, and continues that energy throughout the year. Any returning student can testify to the crazy number of free movies, craft nights, comedians, and event that go on in any given week. There are also some amazing things that every spartan has to do before they graduate.
If you want to get the most out of being a student here at Michigan State University, here are some things that every Spartan needs on their college bucket list!
1. Take a picture with Sparty.
It seems pretty basic, but it is a picture that every student needs! Sparty is our rallying point, and always ready for a photo!
2. Paint the Rock
The rock is an ever changing billboard for campus activities and information valued by all Spartans. Staying up all night protecting your work of art makes some great memories that every Spartan needs!
3. Tube down the Red Cedar River
The water may seem nasty, but it's actually not! During the summer when it's too hot to function on dry campus, going on a nice trip down the Red Cedar is the perfect way to cool down. You get to see campus from a whole new view and maybe make a couple of duck friends along the way! (And if you're feeling really daring, you can go down the rapids by Wells Hall...)
4. Kiss under Beaumont Tower
Beaumont Tower. The beautiful and legendary staple of MSU. Literally. The legend is, if you kiss someone under the shade of Beaumont Tower, you are a "true spartan". Flip side of the coin...you'll end up married to them. So just be careful of who you kiss!
5. Eat Conrad's
Conrad's Grill is a must have at some point in your college career. Their intensely caloric and greasy food is your New Years resolution's worst nightmare, but something all Spartans need to experience before they graduate.
6. Study Abroad
Studying Abroad may seem too far fetched, but just ask anyone who's been on one if the trip was worth the money and odds are they'll say "yes"! MSU's study abroad program is one of the largest in the nation, and the staff in the study abroad office are always looking for ways to help students find their perfect program or look for some scholarships to fund it! Either way, being a Spartan student overseas is an incredible experience.
7. Go to a football game
This one may seem a little obvious, but anyone who hasn't screamed the fight song along with the 75,000 other people in the stadium is seriously missing out. Football Saturdays are a cherished day around campus, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. Kind of like out team...
So whether or not you are a freshman, senior, graduate student, or anything in between, make sure to put these 7 things on your college bucket list for some amazing memories to look back on!
