With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching and as many college students are preparing to travel home for feasts with their family and friends, many of us start to think of how we'll spend those few days in our hometown. For me, I start to think of the things I miss about back home, the things I've realized it's hard to live without.
1. Real Food
A human being can only eat so many chick-fil-a sandwiches before they go insane, and the perfect fix is a home-cooked meal from Mom.
2. My Own Bed
Personally, I have a special relationship with my bed at home, and that just can't be duplicated with my Twin-XL mattress here in my dorm room. I could not be more excited for a few nights on my old mattress.
3. Car
Many college students, especially freshman, don't have a car on campus. And with having to walk everywhere on campus, I can't wait to be able to sit my lazy butt in my faithful 2008 Honda Civic and driving wherever I want to go.
4. Chipotle
Yes, there is a Chipotle about 2 miles from my dorm room. No, it is not the same. Not having a car and not wanting to walk 4 miles round trip has caused me to only be able to go once this semester. Tragic.
5. Family
I'm obliged to list this. We all know being away from the family for so long is tough, so getting to spend some quality time with the fam over a Thanksgiving dinner.
6. Friends
After high school, friend groups disband and go to schools across the country, but for a few days breaks from school overlap and you're all at home for a few days and get to spend some time together.
7. Visit your old high school*
There's an asterisk added because you can totally visit your old school and see your teachers and fellow classmates if you want to. But let's be honest, you really haven't been gone that long. Definitely not long enough for you to miss them and for them to miss you.
All in all, enjoy your time back home. Cram all the things you want to do in the little time you have, but genuienly remember to spend some time with your family, they're the ones who miss you the most.
