7 Things Every Camper Knows About Scioto Youth Camp
Scioto Youth Camp

Most people go off to camp to meet friends and spend a week away from their lives. However, there’s a camp many go to for those same reasons, but most of all it’s their home. Scioto Youth Camp is the place where most of the campers are saved and come to know Christ. They continue attending camp until they can no longer be a camper. Many come back throughout their life; whether to volunteer, bring their children to camp, or to simply visit the place they spent a week out of every summer of their childhood.

1.) The Laughter And Smiles Never End

From the minute you step into the waiting line to sign in, the laughter and beaming begins. Reuniting with camp friends and anticipating the upcoming week can do nothing but inspire the smiles and laughter all around. It’s a place that speaks to your soul and can’t help but show on your face.

2.) You’ll Never Cry More

The conviction on that little hill is definitely overwhelming. The minute you step into that little chapel, the presence of God is so immense. After worship and a sermon, the alter call is possible the most amazing part of service. Watching God convict the souls of people in moving towards Him and accepting His grace and mercy is so amazing and utterly awesome.

3.) Worship Is Indescribable

One of everyone’s favorite times of camp is the music. Whether it be a live worship team or even off of a CD, no one holds back. Every year we are continually surprised that the foundation of the chapel held out after all of the jumping and pounding to every upbeat song. The slower songs allow you to take a breath and revel in the presence of God.

4.) Friends are Lifelong

You think that the best friends you have in high school or college will be your lifelong friends, but camp friends are ones you keep forever. They’ll be the friends you might not see often, but they will always be there. They’ll stand beside you in your wedding or might even be the person you marry. Camp brings the most wonderful people into your life and they will stay there.

5.) You Get the Best Sleep of Your Life

You might be sleeping in a cabin with one outlet and a tin roof, but those chilly nights give you the deepest sleep you have had in a long time. The rainy nights bring about the music playing on the tin roof which soothe your tired mind and body in to a restful sleep. The nights may be late and the mornings early, but the sleep is some of the best sleep you’ll get all year.

6.) It’s A Magical Place

From the friendships and lifelong memories made at Scioto Youth Camp to the real mission of the camp, it is beyond a magical place. So many people have been saved, come to know God, fell in love, met their best friend, and found a home. Scioto Youth Camp is home. Scioto Youth Camp is safe. Scioto Youth Camp is indescribable.

7.) God’s Power is Evident

Through all the trials not just of the people who attend Scioto Youth Camp, but also the trials Scioto Youth Camp has undergone, God has remained unmoved and Almighty. Through water issues, undermining from non-Christians, and so much more God has remained faithful to that little camp on the hill. For that, we thank Him. We love Him. We are blessed that this is a place for anyone and everyone. If you know God, if you don’t. You are welcome. God welcomes you. This place knows His power, His love, His faithfulness. You too can come to know these things and all of the people at this camp can say they have.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
