7 Things You Encounter At Target

When you see the red bulls-eye, you're hypnotized.

Many experience great joy when they walk into Target. There are thousands of possibilities in every aisle, even though most of them you don't really need. Here are a few things you experience during a trip to Target:

1. Starbucks

It is so hard to resist. It’s calling your name and you really want a Venti Mocha Frappuccino. But, let’s be honest, you will need your money since you won't have any self-control once you start shopping.

2. The $1-$3 Section

I have to avoid this section when I walk into Target because I want to buy one of everything. Do I really need a pastel colored plastic mason jar? No. But is it cute? Yes. However, it is a helpful section because you can give your siblings cheap small gifts or raid this section during Christmas for some easy stocking-stuffers. However, you have strength and you walk away. Or, if you’re like me, you don't have the strength. So, you swing back and grab one thing before checking out.

3. The Clothes

If I worked at Target, I would spend half of my paycheck on the clothes. They're a good quality, adorable and there's always a large variety. But my heart breaks a little when I see that the palazzo pants are at least $27. Why would they let a college student in here without supervision? But then the summer dress calls your name and you have to buy it because you need to treat yourself. And, after all, you got out of bed and were somewhat productive today—that’s an accomplishment in of itself.

4. The Makeup

This may seem silly, but I will always buy my makeup from Target because they are the only store in my area that sells Elf makeup. It's inexpensive and decent makeup. I can't leave Target without grabbing at least 10 different cosmetics and justify the purchase because I'll use it at some point, right?

5. Home Decor

The other half of my paycheck would go to this section of the store if I worked at Target. There is something about their knick-knacks that causes me to lose all will power. When it’s back-to-school season, I feel a rush of excitement. There is always something that I need to have in my dorm room. I think more than half of the decorations in my room came from Target.

6. Seasonal

Target's seasonal sections are always fabulous. I was able to make my room festive this year with cute stockings, ornaments and Christmas trees. I cannot wait to have a place of my own so I can get one of the amazing patio sets that Target brings out in the summer too.

7. Checkout

This is the scariest part. Usually I splurge when I have a gift card. When I don’t, I have to practice will-power. As I watch the cashier ring up each item, I can feel a judgmental gaze. I'm sure she's thinking “Girl why do you need four Elf matte lipsticks, two different kinds of water bottles, three pairs of yoga pants and glow in the dark utensils?" She would be right to judge because I don't need any of it. I realize this when I see the grand total, but after I pay for my purchase I feel that it's worth it.

Two hours later, you walk out of the store, get in your car and realize that you forgot the one thing you actually went to Target to get.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
