7 Things To Take Advantage Of While College

For many people college is the time of exploration. These are the years teenagers coming out of adolescence spend time finding themselves. Four years may seem short but when it comes to finding one’s self. There are seven things that college students should take advantage of while in college, because when their careers being to settle in things will be different

1. "Big Chop"

Many people may notice that a lot of females when they go off to college do something called the “big chop.” The cutting of hair is not something anyone can always do. At different ages, a person’s appearance could change and not have the right face for cut. Cutting hair is something great to do in college. A person will fit in with the trend of college students cutting hair, and will not be questioned as much. A person can see if they look good with short, medium, or long hair. A person deciding to cut their hair at 30, is nice, but a person should want to experience with their hair a this age. A person in college, preferably a female, will find out what works for them. If the “big chop” does not suit them, then so what they can try other solutions. Everyone knows the best thing about not liking the "big chop," that the hair WILL GROW BACK! If a person decides to experience with their hair in their late 30s, then their will may not grow back as fast than someone in college. Hair growth depends on the genetics, despite what advertisers say. If a person’s hair grows slow even after the “big chop” in college, then they have the whole four years to grow it back. Likewise, if a person’s hair does grow slow, then it will still fit into the college trend of cutting hair vs a 40 year old who does a “big chop” and three years have gone by and there hair has not grown, chances are people will notice. So if you are entering college or still in college, decide to participate in the “big chop” trend now, possibly during freshman or sophomore year.

2. Dying Hair Ridiculous Colors

Nothing is wrong with a person dying their hair millions of colors but this better done during college. A person dying their hair wild colors in college look better because people will think "oh they're experimenting" or "there going through some phrase." Plus, these are the rightful years to explore different things with a person's hair. A person working in corporate American will not look right walking around in pink or yellow hair, but guess who would? A college student would.

3. Finding A Career

Several college students come into college not knowing their career path. That is fine. Universities have a lot of resources to help students figuring out their career. Take advantage of the career center! The career center will help anyone, do not be ashamed. Some college students fall ashamed and do not take advantage of the career opportunity. Also, take advantage of an adviser, they are there to help their advisee. No college student should walk across the stage, receiving their degree, with no career interest in mine. A college student should declare their major during their sophomore and beginning junior year. A person needs to find out what they are good. What can they do for a lifetime and not career to really receive a paycheck? A person should ask themselves these questions.

4. Exploring New Opportunities

During college students have chances to take on new opportunities. Some of the chances include studying abroad, taking on a new language, and joining a student organizations find a new interest. Some universities offer trips and free classes. Take advantage! By the time a college student graduates, they will not have opportunities to try so much because they are expected to work their careers. Go explore the unknown and have fun doing it.

5. Going Through Millions Of Relationships

College is a world of its own when it comes to relationship, breakups, and hookups. Most girls cry their eyes out about being heartbroken. These are suppose to happen but enjoy the heartbreaks and move on. This will prepare a person for the "real world" and all the heartbreaks that are to come. This world is full of people chasing love, which has no ending. So get into relationships because chances are a person may end up hooking with their future wife or husband.

6. Discovering Style

College students coming from grade school might not actually know their style. Everyone has their own fashion and this should be explored during college or during someone's 20's. Going through old clothes and throwing away grad school clothes makes a start of discovering style. A college student will see other student style and will eventually become inspired, which will help shape their own style.

7. Making Friends

Making friends in college is very important! During college a person has the opportunity to meet a wide range of people in their age range or career circle. After graduating, a newly graduate will have a lot of time to make friends. The two ways, a newly college graduate will make friends from work and maybe luckily from a concert. The friends in college usually help shape a person's social circle and make long lasting friends. So get out and make friends.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you.
