7 Things I Want To Do After I Graduate

Our go-to answer of getting a job is not really the truth.

Every break, holiday or any time you see an adult whom you haven't seen in a while, you always get that great question that sends you spiraling into an existential crisis: "So, what do you want to do when you graduate?" Usually you will respond with the polite answer of "I'm not really sure yet, hopefully get a job that I enjoy," but you really just want to scream "Hold on dude, I'm not graduating for two years!" We all know that adults are usually well-intentioned, but this question just drives us crazy because, honestly, most of us have no clue what we will do after we graduate. However, there are some less than practical things that we would love to do, or at least love to tell all of the interrogating adults we would love to do.

1. Take, at least, a five-year break.

We've been in school for 15 years straight; a little break would be nice. But, this isn't very practical since we have mountains of student debt to start paying off.

2. Travel the world.

How wonderful would it be to actually be able to see the world while you are still young? Again, this is virtually impossible, considering traveling costs money instead of making you money.

3. Become Internet famous.

We'd all like to think that we are funny enough to be a Vine star or have our own YouTube channel, but most of us aren't. While being a big Internet star sounds like a fun and easy job, we probably wouldn't really be able to make it.

4. Volunteer.

This is probably the most practical option. Many organizations allow you to travel to do volunteer work, and you would be giving back. Although, this is another option that wouldn't really help with the whole debt situation.

5. Open up an ice cream shop.

Everyone loves ice cream, and it's pretty easy to make. But, this is an operation that will cost you a lot of money long before it makes you any.

6. Write a book.

This sounds like a fun activity, but I personally don't think I could come up with something interesting enough that people would actually want to read.

7. Be a trophy wife or trophy husband.

Don't lie, we've all considered marrying the next rich, smart person we meet. I'm as motivated and independent as the next girl, but not having to worry about making enough money to pay off those student loans sounds pretty nice right now.

Unfortunately, most of these options are very impractical, and we would never actually consider doing a lot of these things, but it is nice to dream. And it's funny to tell distant relatives who can't even remember how old you are that you want to open up an ice cream shop after you graduate.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
