7 Things Better Than '7 Rings'

Unpopular opinion: "7 Rings" doesn't deserve to be your next bop.

7 Things Better Than '7 Rings'

Real Talk: "7 Rings", while it already is under critique for being "stolen tunes", it definitely doesn't slap as hard as most of Ariana Grande's songs. She can run a mean hook, a mean chorus, but you can't deny that the only thing quality about this song is the beat. Sure, it has danceability, but where's something more meaningful than flaunting all the stuff you can buy.

Sure, you've been through some stuff and you want to come out strong. But, you can write something that isn't about your tattoos that you misspell.

As a matter of fact, I can think of so many things better than this song. Here are a few:

The Polar Vortex

Giphy

A real thriving force that has caused WVU to cancel for three days, it's really taking care of our roads. And by that I mean, I slid down the hills of Morgantown in my car today. I made it out unscathed, and my car is fine, but I was terrified. The Vortex is definitely easing, but it had more charisma than the people who wrecked thinking they had class today.

My Roommate

Giphy

As I write this, she is curled up in a blanket, hair in a wrap post-shower, and is waiting for me to find Leap Year illegally so we can watch it. Can't get any more content than that.

The Egg that Broke the Internet

Giphy

You know that egg that beat out Kylie Jenner for the highest liked photo on Instagram. It's now become a great breakfast omelette. Beat that! (Literally...)

"My Favorite Things" by Julie Andrews

Giphy

You know, because that's what the entire first verse ripped off. Julie Andrews would be ashamed.

My Liver

Giphy

Borderline cabin feverish, I've been slipping Bailey's into my hot chocolate, Crown into my coffee, and NyQuil for nap time. It's only a little bit; I promise. Stay warm, friends.

My plant on my window sill.

Giphy

He's a little bamboo named Harry. He's really cold, because, Polar Vortex. But, he's doing very well with the overcast sky.

The Real "7 Things"

Giphy

"7 Things" > "7 Rings". Hands down. An iconic bop that has surpassed time, "7 Rings" will always ride the coattails of this tune about loving Nick Jonas (way before this old couple found Priyanka and Liam, for you younger readers).

Give me seven good reasons as to why "7 Rings" is a good song. I'll give you thousands more to counter. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. Have a nice snow day.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
