For the past eleven years, Shonda Rhimes has provided us with possibly the most extreme mood swings in her 293 episodes of the beloved show Grey's Anatomy. The must see drama depicts the lives of surgeons and has thousands of fans across the world. After my three-month binge watch of all 12 seasons, I have discovered a group of situations that all Grey's Anatomy fans find themselves in.
1. When People Tell You That Grey's Anatomy Isn't "that good"
Every once in a while, you will meet one strange person who does not understand true genius when they see it. The best thing to do with people like this is to just smile and move on. I could write another list of reasons why Grey's is the best show, but I'll save that for another day.
2. Looking Up What You Have To Do To Become A Surgeon
After seeing what fun it looks like to basically live in a hospital with lots of attractive surgeons, you've probably done your research. Then after you see how much school and time it actually takes, you become content with living the life of a surgeon vicariously through Meredith Grey.
3. Confusing Your Friends With Your Knowledge Of Surgical Terms
"His BP is dropping! Push one of Epi!"
"She cut his LVAD chord so that he could get the heart. It was really romantic."
-Real things I have actually said to my friends
4. Getting Overly Excited When You Meet Another Fan
Finally! Someone who will understand all of the Grey's terms you throw at them. You can openly discuss couples that you love and the surgeons you hate. You also experience this excitement when one of your friends tells you that they have been watching the show.
5. Falling In Love With A Character And Then Having Them Die
So basically Shonda Rhimes wants to destroy everything you love. By season 10, you know better than to get attached to characters. Somehow, even though all of your favorite characters have died, you still love the show more and more with each episode.
6. Identifying With The Characters On A Spiritual Level
I have often decided that many of the characters from the show could be my spirit animal. Christina Yang happens to be my favorite.
7. Forgetting That You're Watching A Fictional Show
I can't be the only one who treats this show as if it is my real life. I have actually skipped events because I was mourning the loss of my favorite surgeons.
Throughout all the losses and gains, Grey's Anatomy continues to be possibly the most addicting show I have ever watched. Despite all of the struggles that come from loving a show that consistently kills your favorite characters, this show will always be "my show."
