Bible journaling is an act of worship. It is using your God-given abilities and talents for His glory through art. It can consist of (but is not limited to) painting, drawing, writing and other mediums of art. For me, I was scared when I first felt called to this process. I'm not a natural artist or am very creative, but I have learned that it's not about me. It's about what God can do through me. I wish I had a list of steps to help me get started on this journey, so I made some for you.
Step One: Get a Bible and/or journal.
You don't have to have a specific Bible in order to start this journey. All you need is a Bible, journal or some form of canvas to get you started. Remember, this is your journey. So do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.
Step Two: Get to praying.
Simply talking to God about how He wants to use you through this process is the most important step. Maybe this is a journey just between you and Him, or maybe He wants to use you to lead a group for your church for Bible journaling.
Step Three: Pray about a scripture or pick a scripture.
If you're not sure where to start in the Bible, talking to God is the best way to find out. However, if you have a favorite verse or have already thought about a cool idea for a specific verse, do that! Again, this is your journey.
Step Four: Pray about or pick an art medium.
Maybe you like to draw or paint or just hand write. There are tons of ways to illustrate what God is saying to you.
Step Five: Get to work!
You've got your canvas, scripture and art medium. Now all you need is your hands! This is the most fun part of them all. Personally, I like to listen to music while I do this and create a peaceful, but creative environment around me.
Step Six: Add your signature.
Whether it's a date stamp, stickers, or your actual signature, adding your personal stamp is a nice touch for the end.
Step Seven: Repeat steps 1-7.
Seven is the number of completeness and it wouldn't be complete if you didn't repeat the process again!
