Until you recognize the negatives in your life, you will not be able to prepare to tackle it all. Here are just a few ways you can take negativity out of your life:

1. Realize your worth.

You are too wonderful and amazing to be destroyed by negativity. Believe me, negativity can, and will, destroy you and your life. Once you see your true value, you will realize that you are worthy of more happiness and less negativity. Know what your values are in life and live by them. If you don't believe that you are worth happiness and light, you won't receive it; that's just how it works.

2. Get mentally prepared.

Letting go of negativity is not going to be easy. Letting the bad things and bad people go does not mean you have hate in your heart. It just means that you love yourself and give permission to yourself to be happy. Come to grips with eliminating negativity from your life and what that will mean for you and your life.

3. Identify the negatives in your life.

Until you recognize the negatives in your life, you will not be able to prepare to tackle it all. Write it out. The names, the emotions and the things that funnel negativity into your life. Negatives in your life are like weeds in a garden and positives are like flowers. You are going to have to remove negatives to allow room for positives in your life.

4. Detoxify your life.

Limit, avoid and eliminate your interactions with the negativity in your life. Get rid of anyone who lies to you, disrespects you, uses you or puts you down. Stand up for yourself and be strong. If you can't somehow remove negatives from your life, try to turn those negatives into positives.

5. Shift your focus.

Create a plan for making your life better. Without a plan, you may find yourself searching for something that you will never find. Without the distraction of negativity looming over you and your life, set forth with the intention of being happy.

6. Surround yourself with positivity.

To ward off the negativity from your life, surround yourself with happiness. Do things that make you happy and be with people that make you happy. If you put positivity into the world, the world will put positivity into you. Negativity cannot infiltrate your life with a barrier of love, light or happiness around you and within you.

7. Be consistent.

Maintain order in your life and be consistent with your positivity. If at any point, you allow negativity and darkness to access your life, you are leaving the door wide open for more negativity. Negativity is a never ending cycle. You have the power to break it and remove it.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
