7 Staples You NEED In Your Fall Wardrobe

Because the most wonderful time of year is among us!

The best season of the year is finally here marked by the end of Labor Day and I am embracing it fully. Fall is among us, the leaves, the cooler weather, the pumpkins, the pumpkin spice, and, of course, THE FASHION!!!! The colors, the sweaters, the coats -- oh, the coats. Anyway, it's that time and for the women like me who are simply addicted to fashion, there are seven key pieces in every part of your wardrobe that are simply musts this season.

1. Oversized Sweater Dress

You could get this two ways: an actual oversized sweater dress OR a super large sweater. The beauty of it is that they're the same thing and extra-large sweaters are easier to find especially if you're on the shorter side. Navy blue, maroon, olive, cream, grey -- honestly, any fall color will work with oversized sweater dresses. The question is shoes and the answer is pretty much any. From Chelsea boots to stiliettoes to converses to creepers, you have a lot of options here simply because you're whole top half is covered and with something loose no less. It gives you the excuse to show those gorgeous gams! So do it!

2. A Velvet Choker

I know, you think you can't pull off a choker. Well this is me saying you can. I don't know who lied to you and said you couldn't but they were obviously jealous. A lace choker could also work for fall, paired with any outfit from a crew neck sweater and jeans to your favorite crop-top and pencil skirt. It's all about knowing your neck. Me being a giant, I have a neck the length of a giraffe and both thin and thick chokers work on me. But for someone with a shorter neck, I would recommend thin chokers like the one pictured here. Remember, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! Nude, olive, and maroon velvet chokers are just as gorgeous as black!

3. Utility Jacket

Also called a cargo jacket, this is an absolute must. It snuck its way in at the end of last fall and is making a strong comeback this fall as well. What's wonderful about the utility jacket is the versatility. As seen here, it can be worn with jeans and a t-shirt or your favorite t-shirt dress and stilettos. I want to stress that while olive is the primary color for a utility jacket, it is not the only color! Olive has surely become a pseudo-neutral but camo, beige, and grey have most definitely become excellent colors for utility jackets.

4. Thigh-High Boots

I know what you're going to say and don't. Thigh-highs have gotten a very bad rep and they can continue to have one UNLESS we start wearing them the right way with -- oh look! An oversized sweater dress!!! The key to thigh-highs is suede material and a block heel. If you're feeling leather and 6-inch stiletto thigh-highs, more power to you! But for women wanting to try something new and still concerned about how to do it without looking like a stripper, suede and block heels or even flats similar to the Stuart Weitzman's are recommended.

5. A Turtleneck

I think we all decided to toss these out back in the 2000's because for us millennials, itchy wool turtlenecks were the go-to ALL WINTER for mom. I know, you've been traumatized. But as with everything guys, its coming back. It's coming back and no one can stop it. So we should embrace it! Whether it's a merlot turtleneck sweater or a simple black turtleneck shirt, we need to do it right this time. We brought back high-waist bottoms, crop-tops, bodysuits (@Beyonce), and overalls within the last three years and I think we can all agree that they have all been a huge success. It's time for the turtleneck to make a reappearance the right way. And of course NO WOOL!

6. Suspenders

Please do yourselves a favor and buy black suspenders for $7 from anywhere. Suspenders will take any outfit up a notch. High-waist jeans, trousers, pencil skirt, mini skirt -- literally any bottoms you can clip these onto and tuck a cute shirt into. This is also something that everyone can and should wear this season NO MATTER YOUR BODY TYPE. Anyone who says otherwise is simply being ignorant.

7. Long-line Trench or Duster

The reason this is a necessity is because when it starts to get colder, it's harder and harder to showcase just how fashionable you are. So, why not step up your fall street style game with an simple yet elegant duster or trench (I say or because trench coats are almost always dusters but dusters aren't always trench coats). Not only are trench coats excellent street style pieces but everyone knows you can also wear them to work, school, a party, the gym, wherever. I recommend snagging a thicker duster to last you through the winter because as we East-coasters know, the winter can be brutal.

My advice is to splurge on most or all of these (except the choker because you can still get a good choker for $10) and save, save, SAVE on everything else. There is no need for you to splurge on a $40 t-shirt if you're on a budget (which most us fashionistas are). And one more thing: don't be afraid of color! Fall colors look great on everyone and although black will always be my favorite, maroons, olives, grays, navy blues, nudes and even burnt oranges are always fun to play with in the fall!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
