All semester, my older, wiser friends have been warning me about the withdrawal symptoms of coming home from your first semester of college. Like anyone addicted to anything, I thought I'd be fine quitting cold turkey, but my pals were proved right as I called my best friend not even twenty four hours after being off campus. So to cope, I thought I'd give you a little taste of what it's like to be gone from college for Christmas break for the first time...as told by Supernatural.

1. When you're done with your last final

...and literally all you want to do is get back to your own bed and sleep.

2. When you get that first home cooked meal

You don't even care how anyone else looks at you or how it tastes. I mean, come on, at this point, anything is better than caf food.

3. And when mom does your laundry

Ah, so that's what clean clothes are supposed to smell like.

4. But then you realize all your friends are back home, too.

How does anyone expect you to live without them for a month?!

5. When your parents don't understand why you're homesick.

"But you are home! We've missed you!"

6. And then Christmas day comes

and you forget about everything else for a solid twenty four hours.

7. And then finally, you get back to campus

and even though classes are about to start, you're just happy to be back with all your college pals.

Even though there's lots to miss back at school, don't forget to be present with your family over the holidays! They missed you, too, and you're friends will be there when you get back! Merry Christmas!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
