I love anything and everything even remotely creepy. My Reddit subscriptions, Tumblr dash, Facebook feed, and YouTube suggested are full to the brim of things that post creepy/true crime facts, stories, and information. I'm subscribed/a follower to a ton of these pages and people, but here are some of my favorite places to get my creep on.
We can talk all we want about how monsters are scary, but a lot of us are increasingly more aware that humans themselves are monsters too, and are sometimes much more terrifying. LetsNotMeet is a subreddit that's dedicated to individuals who have had true experiences with creepy people in their lives in some way or another. Everything in this subreddit is assumed to be, as well as supposed to be, true, though some stories do get verified by moderators if there is sufficient evidence existing regarding the event, such as news stories. I'm paranoid of people anyway, but this subreddit oftentimes has individuals who have lived my worst nightmares, yet I still insist on reading it when I can't sleep.
2. MrCreepyPasta on YouTube
There are a lot of Creepypasta narrators out there, but perhaps my favorite is MrCreepyPasta. I used to play simple computer games while I listened to his narrations, and although I don't listen to them as much as I used to, once in awhile I like to have the reading done for me with a background of creepy music and appropriate sound effects.
3. congenitaldisease on Tumblr
Tumblr is hard sometimes because finding blogs that give cold, hard facts and evidence about true crime is extremely difficult, at least for me. There's a subculture on Tumblr that romanticizes mass murderers and serial killers to the point of having legitimate celebrity crushes on individuals like Richard Ramirez. What's most disturbing to me, though, is the “Columbine killer fandom,” which may not be the technical term, but you can catch a glimpse into what is posted about the Columbine killers just with that term. Many blogs support this kind of fandom, even if it's not their direct theme, and it's not my idea of a good time.
So, when I found congenitaldisease I was over the moon with happiness. She posts very objectively about true crime as well as other creepy information, and I appreciate the hell out of her for it. This is definitely one of my favorite blogs that I follow right now.
4. sixpenceeeaesthetic on Tumblr
I've struggled with trying to figure out what my “aesthetic” is. Sometimes it's beachy summer vibes, other times it's creepy rainy forest vibes. Sixpenceee runs an extremely popular blog on Tumblr dedicated to creepy things as well as a myriad of other stuff like science and human rights. Just recently, she started a side blog full of creepy aesthetic pictures. Not everything she posts there is dark, but the majority is, and I absolutely love it. It's definitely what I'd been looking for to haunt my dashboard.
5. Shane Dawson’s creepy videos
I can hear what you're thinking. “Shawnee, I haven't cared about Shane Dawson since I was 15 years old,” and I get that. The stuff he puts on his main channel I don't usually bother with anymore simply because that's not my brand of humor. But on his side channel, shane, he posts a lot of creepy conspiracy videos as well as paranormal and weird death videos. As far as the death videos, he also handles them very well by not showing extremely gory things and reminding everyone that freak accidental deaths are not something to be taken lightly, which is something everyone can appreciate. What I also like about these videos is that he explains things like complex conspiracy theories in a way that anyone can understand, even if it's extremely out there.
Sixpenceee also runs a story website similar to Creepypasta. These stories are submitted by her followers and are oftentimes very good. I've seen a lot of people complaining about r/nosleep and I personally haven't been on the official Creepypasta website in years, so I can't attest to the state of things there, but the stories at sixpenceeestories.com are, for now, still amazingly good for amateur writers. Not all of the stories there are creepy, but I can guarantee that there are some downright terrifying ones that lurk there!
If you're like me then you've probably read/looked at these things before you've tried to fall asleep. Or, perhaps you saw something really disturbing and you need to take your mind off of it, so I've taken the liberty of also adding r/eyebleach to this list because there's no shame in needing something to remind you that there are many more good things in the world than there are creepy.
Happy haunting!
