Happy Spring!!!
March 20th marked the "official" beginning of spring, and now we're finally being blessed with sunlight, goodness, beauty, love... (Or, at the end of the day, maybe just sunlight, but still.)
Spring elicits an aura of rebirth. Of reawakening. Of a chance to renew yourself.
It also elicits an aura of Get Rid of Sucky Things in Your Life™ because you don't have any goddamn time (or energy) for them anymore.
Get rid of people who don't care enough about you. Get rid of circumstances you don't want to be a part of. Get rid of characteristics within yourself you don't like carrying around. There is absolutely no room in your life for unsolicited negativity...
Getting rid of "Sucky Things" is easier said than done, I know, but here are some songs to get you in the mood to renew:
1. Freedom - Tegan and Sara
"She said 'you've got the freedom, baby, walk out if they drag you down.'"
In this edgy piece by the lovely Canadian duo, Tegan and Sara remind us that we are all powerful and strong and can totally win against sucky forces.
2. Watch Me Shine - Joanna Pacitti
"I'll prove that I can conquer anything."
Sometimes we all need to channel our inner Elle Woods.
3. Begin Again - Taylor Swift
"But on a Wednesday, in a cafe, I watched it begin again."
This is one of my favorites from Taylor's "Red" album because it's so delicate and beautiful. Totally a great song for new beginnings.
4. Put Your Records On - Corinne Bailey Rae
"You're gonna find yourself somewhere... somehow."
This one makes me nostalgic. Corinne Bailey Rae really knows how to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside while trying to reinvent and redefine yourself.
5. The Secret to New York - We the Kings
"Nothing matters anymore, and that's the secret to New York."
A little more of a bitter piece, this one is really about letting go (and moving forward) despite that being difficult.
6. Friday I'm In Love - The Cure
"I don't care if Monday's black."
This is pretty much my favorite go-to feel-good song because it sends the message that your whole week (or life...) can be sucky, but that doesn't mean you can't brush it off and try again by Friday.
7. Rich Youth - Hayley Kiyoko
"Rich youth. Brand new, unused."
Hayley def gives off renewal vibes in her song about being young and embodying a "clean slate."
Good luck on all of your spring cleaning, and remember, you deserve only the best things out of life.
