Snapchat - the reason that hundreds of girls know they'd make cute dogs, double chin pictures have somehow become acceptable, and appetizing food dishes could be competitive for America's Next Top Model. Conversations have been condensed into an exchange of ten second pictures or videos, and story telling has followed suite. Recently, the app made some changes which now allow users to store moments within the app, but if I could make the call, these aren't the changes the app needed. While, yes, the flame icon next to bae's name does prove that he loves you enough to snap you every day, and the gold heart does make you and your best friend "snap chat official," we all know there are more important things we wonder about the people seeing our snaps. So, here are the icon updates I think Snapchat needs to consider:
1. The "LOL I just showed 5 other people that horrible selfie" Emoji-Icon
Everyone does it. You're in a room with a group of people, your best friend sends you that super unflattering selfie captioned "haven't left my bed all day" and you immediately turn your phone around and, while laughing, say "Ew! Look at this picture Emily just sent me!" The whole group laughs and it's a good time for everyone. Unless, of course, you're the Emily of the scenario. This is where that emoji would come in handy, and now you know to only send cute af pictures to said friend.
2. The "I re-took this selfie 10 times to try to look cute, but also like I'm not trying too hard" Emoji-Icon
Or, aka, when you want someone to think you're really cute, so you take a bazillion pictures in every lighting possible, and end up taking 15 minutes to respond.
3. The "I completely wasn't paying attention when I opened your snap" Emoji-Icon
Whether you want to admit it or not, every single one of us has done it. Mindlessly going on your phone, you get a snap, and space out and don't even read the caption. At that point, you have two options: don't respond, or do the typical "lol" selfie. At least this icon will explain to the other person why you just said "lol" to them saying "work was awful."
4. The "Oh wow." Emoji-Icon
Every once in a while bae sends you that Snapchat that sort of catches you off guard and you're just like "hot dayum." Of course, depending on how serious this person is, you can't always express your sudden, secret love, so you reply a basic response. But, as the sender, it would be nice to know your effort to look like a 10, was a success
5. The "Please stop. 50 snaps are enough for a lifetime, let alone a day." Emoji-Icon
When your phone buzzes for the hundredth, millionth time because You-Know-Who snapped you again. Since it's awkward to tell this over-eager Snapper to stop, an emoji-icon that would pop up on his screen letting him know enough is enough would be great for both parties involved.
6. The "Your Snaps are on point today" Emoji-Icon
Sometimes, you think something is funny and no one else does. But, when you're documenting this funny event on something like Snapchat you really begin to question it. If an icon could let you know when you are just killing the game, users everywhere would appreciate it.
7. The "Put your phone down and actually hang out with this person" Emoji-Icon
Phones are so easy to get wrapped into. It's not rare that half an hour goes by and you don't even realize it. If you're spending all that time snapping someone, you might as well, just go, well actually see them. Snapchat could change the world - again.
So here's to everyone's streaks, everyone's funny filters, and these updates that you didn't even realize you needed. Happy Snapping, people.
