With St. Patricks Day right around the corner, it's vital for us Irish folks to take a moment and recognize what this awesome nationality has done for us. Here are 7 signs you're Irish AF (and proud).
1. You have naturally wild, curly hair.
No matter how much you try to straighten it, Irish curls will find a way to come back. No hair day is the same. A lot needs to happen in order to achieve that perfect, effortless hair day. If you're like me, you have a love-hate relationship with your curls but have grown to appreciate their craziness.
2. Freckles, freckles, and more freckles
Freckles are an Irish staple. The minute the sun hits your face, your freckles will begin to darken and appear in random places, like your shoulders. While some people are now drawing freckles on their faces, we were born with them. Kinda cool, right?
3. Your family is huge, and you have some sort of relationship with all of them.
Family parties seem to be never ending- so many people to say hello and goodbye to. People think it's weird that we know our third cousins, but to us it's normal.
4. You're pale, almost always.
Sun tans for Irish folks are either sun burns that slightly turn tan or freckles that blend together. If you live in a cold climate during the winter, it can feel like you blend in with the white walls or that every imperfection just seems to be apparent you're just that pale. People aren't afraid to comment about it either.
5. Your family knows how to party.
Irish family parties are ones for the books. The Irish know exactly what the recipe is for fun and how to let loose. No matter the holiday, an Irish family cracks open a bottle of Guinness until there's none left in the near vicinity. Drunken sing-alongs and dance parties are also a common occurrence.
6. Breaking out in Irish dancing happens often.
It's highly likely that after a couple of drinks a few family members will gain the courage to get up and start Irish dancing. The years and years of dance classes are never forgotten, especially when you hear your favorite Irish folk song.
7. St. Patrick's Day is every day.
No matter what day it is, Irish people know how to celebrate their heritage without the St. Patrick's Day title. You are proud to be Irish every day because you know you wouldn't want it any other way.
Though being Irish can have its challenges (frizzy hair, sunburn, etc), it's a nationality that is focused on family, tradition, fun, and love. If you're Irish AF, be proud and always remember that you don't just have to wear green to show you're Irish, it's all in who you already are.
