7 Signs You're From The Philly Area
Erin Shortall

If you live in Philadelphia or in a surrounding Philadelphia suburb, you understand the ways of Philadelphians. From the monuments to the food, you know it all, and it's unique to the eastern side of Pennsylvania. You're proud to be a Philadelphian, and these 11 things give you all the more reason to be.

1. Wawa... 'nuff said.

It’s only the best convenient store known to this country -- or at least along this coast. Whenever you have late-night cravings or just need a quick cup of coffee or some random necessity, you just go to Wawa, and all your problems are solved. Plus, they sell the best hoagies.

2. The way things are spelled and said are just two totally different things.

Whether it’s drinking “cawfee” or driving down the “Skookill,” we can’t control our involuntary accents. We may be oblivious to the way words sounds when we say them, but others aren't, and it's funny to hear them mimic our strong, proud Philadelphian accents.

3. You know what Radio 104.5 is.

Philadelphia’s best alternative radio station, that also happens to host the best concerts. The station has personal relationships with amazing bands, and it's so awesome that Philadelphia is so well-known to those amazing artists. Residents of other states are jealous of it.

4. You've tasted heaven, and it's called Philly cheesesteaks.

Other cities try to replicate them, but they never can. You know that if you want a "Philadelphia Cheesesteak," you have to go to Philadelphia to get that said cheesesteak. There’s nothing quite like a real Philly cheesesteak.

5. You say "Philly," not "Philadelphia."

It creates a sort of bond amongst Philadelphians. Why say the three extra syllables when Philly natives know exactly what you mean?

6. If you had to pick what sports team to root for, it's always going to be a Philly sports team (even if they suck).

You just have to stay loyal, regardless of the teams’ actual skills. If it has the word "Philadelphia" in front of the team name, then you naturally draw to that team. Plus, you might get free coffee (as long as they win).

7. You've run up the Rocky steps at least a dozen times.

It’s just what you do every time you’re in Philly. Run up the steps in normal speed, run up the steps in slow motion. Rocky would be proud.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
