If you think about it, the hardest thing you'll EVER have to do is grow up; lucky for us, we spend a lot of our lives doing it (sarcasm fully intended). A lot of the growing up I have been doing recently has been extremely hard on me and although we want so badly to remain that perfect age of 17 forever, 18 marks the transition into full on adulthood. For some of us, it entails going off to college to work towards a degree, for others, it means getting a job and working. For those extremely crazy people, it means both (@ me). I think for everyone, growing up is different, and just the same.
1. Target becomes the adult version of Toys R Us
Ok seriously, who doesn't love Target? That place is amazing, and I am not even ashamed to admit I spend an average of 4-6 hours there a week. I seriously don't even care what I'm looking at because everything there is sent from the heavens above. I mean seriously, those people have mad organization skills. And don't EVEN get me started on how great that dollar section at the front is. That place does wonders for me after a long day of work, or after a hard class.
2. Shows like SNL, Whose Line Is It Anyway and Oprah suddenly make so much sense to you
When I was about eight years old, I used to watch SNL and WLIIA with my mom, and I seriously would laugh out loud looking like an idiot because I didn't even know what they were saying. Seriously, as I have grow up, those shows have taken on a whole new meaning in my life. I could sit for hours upon hours watching them and never get bored. In fact, the laughs would keep pouring out.
3. Having just a handful of good friends is fine with you
After I graduated high school, it became really evident that some people were going to go their own way, and that was hard for me to understand at first. I have gotten to really know the people that I will have for the rest of my life. You become totally fine with meeting up with friends late on a Friday night for tacos, or shopping with a long lost friend once in awhile. But the best part is, when you see your friends from some time ago, its like nothing has ever changed.
4. Suddenly, your paycheck isn't yours anymore
BILLS, BILLS, BILLS!! Ok honestly, there's nothing worse then working your butt off all week, and then having to send your hard-earned money into school for tuition, rent or a car payment. In the end, we know it's what's best, but for now, we will continue to whine.
6. You'd rather call your mom over friends
Mother knows best takes on a whole new meaning when you start to grow up. You seriously appreciate your parents wisdom way more than at that sassy age of 16 and suddenly, it's not uncool to be seen with your parents in public.
7. You have acquired a whole new appreciation for coffee
Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, that cute little coffee shop around the corner. IT DOESN'T MATTER. Whatever you can get your hands on with just a tad of espresso, you will, or else making it through the day will be nearly impossible.
