1. You'd rather stay in vs. go out
Yes, we all know how fun it was our Freshman and Sophomore year to have the stamina and spunk to make it out every Thursday there ever was and yes we vowed to never miss a night out. But there comes a point when we honestly would just rather get in our bed drink hot chocolate out of our cute mug from TJ Maxx and binge watch a whole Netflix series while living vicariously through our friends Snapchat stories rather than waking up the next day regretting we drank something called Jungle Juice.
2. You realize there's no time for naps
This may be one of the saddest, but now as we get older we find ourselves in a constant struggle to get things done in our daily lives. We go to class, we have to study, we have a meeting, we have to work so we can find some way to pay for our Netflix account, and when we get off work we think about taking a nap but then as we walk in our room we trip over the mounds of dirty laundry we have forgotten about and not had time to do until now.
3. You rarely get to see your friends
With all the other things going on during your day and week, we actually have to think about making some time to do things that we enjoy, such as catching up with our friends. And the good thing is that our close friends are getting just as old so we spend our times together watching weird documentaries, sending pins to each other on Pinterest, drinking cheap wine, but mostly talking about our golden days of youth and how old we are now.
4. Our money gets spent differently
We used to make sure we had the money to buy our cheap yet tasteful vodka for the night and we just had to have that new outfit to go out in because we COULD NOT outfit repeat. But now we find ourselves paying for electric bills, we find a strange need to buy a plethora of extra soft blankets, cozy socks are pretty cool too, oh and pajamas can come in handy, and now you've also found a new love and appreciation for Hobby Lobby and all of the knick knacks it has to offer.
5. We start to miss our family
And at some point in our college career, we start to really grasp the importance of family and what it means to us. We don't stop to think about how happy a free home cooked meal can really make us. We would give anything to be a kid again and have someone taking care of us instead of being in the big scary adult world. You realize when you get a flat tire you can't call your Daddy in hopes he will swoop down and save us, we are officially old and it is our responsibility now to take it on alone and hopefully keep some dignity after having a meltdown.
6. We recognize a real friend
We know that some people come into our life for a reason and that some come in our life for a season. But we've known that and yet we failed to listen to those wise words, until now. We see better and understand what a real friend does and means to us. We know that we need to keep certain people in our lives and there's no need for the others. We can see through a fake friend and know when sometimes you just have to be a grown up and walk away from drama (unless it's Gossip Girl then okay we'll let it slide)
7. Acceptance
There comes a point for everybody where they accept getting old and that it's just a part of life and it's really not that bad. Yes, everyone tells you to not grow up but as much as we'd like to hope we can't go to Never Land with Peter Pan and be a young foolish college kid who bar hops on a weekly basis...we all grow up. We tell ourselves we're grandmas and grandpas because we'd rather go to the movies and sneak in candy instead of going to a club. There's nothing wrong with it, so it's time to make the best of it. Be old and bold, and love every second of it.
