7 Signs You Race Motocross

Almost everyone has something that they love, whether a hobby, sport, or activity. Some people love calm and not so crazy things like cooking, drawing or playing and instrument. Motocross racers, on the other hand, love whipping through the air on their bikes, hitting big jumps and the adrenaline of having a powerful machine beneath them.

1. You drive like you're riding a motorcycle.

Everyone who has ridden with me says the same thing: you drive like you’re racing a motorcycle. I’m not quite sure what exactly they’re talking about but everyone seems the think I’m a great driver so I must know how to ride a dirt bike pretty well.

2. The night before a race you can’t sleep.

Every night before a race I can’t sleep. The adrenaline gets flowing through my veins as soon as the bikes are loading and being hauled to the track. I toss and turn and wake up every hour hoping that it’s time to race, and will complain the next day about not getting enough sleep.

3. In your spare time, you look at motorcycle parts, graphics and gear.

When I don’t have anything else to do I’m usually shopping. Not like every other girl on forever21.com; I shop for motocross gear and helmets all the time. New gear, boots and goggles get released all the time and I like to look stylish when zooming around the track.

4. You have to explain motocross to people.

One thing that I’m always doing is talking about motocross and getting confused looks. People know that motocross has to do with dirt bikes, but when it comes to what we actually do they’re in the dark. I love getting the line, “Motocross? Like dirt bikes? Don’t y’all ride over like hills and stuff?” I guess in simple terms the answer would be yes but there are other obstacles than “hills.”

5. Every Saturday night consists of watching "Monster Energy Supercross" (when in season).

I know my family loves watching supercross. We basically know everything about it and every racer on the track. We also have attended supercross races. Everyone has a favorite pro racer, and we root them on from the comforts of our house every Saturday.

6. Always talking about having moto-children.

A lot of people I know, including myself, always talk about one day teaching our son or daughter how to ride a motorcycle. This is one thing that I hope I can pass down to my children because racing motocross has brought me a lot of joy throughout my lifetime. Because it is such a family orientated sport, you gain a strong family bond and that can’t be beat.

7. You’ve been through bad injuries and bad races.

Most motocross racers have unfortunately been through some sort of injury. It’s a dangerous sport, but the thrill of it makes it worth it. The feeling you get when doing well in your race or even hitting a new jump doesn’t compare to anything in the world. I’ve been through my fair share of injuries and it has been hard, but every time I get back on my motorcycle I’m excited and ready to rip.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
