Coming from a wrestling obsessed family, I have been watching it since before I could talk. Being my father's only child for five years also contributed to the wrestling fan being conditioned in me. As a child, I thought the WWE was magical, wondrous, and in all honesty, scary. But I never got a bigger thrill than that of cheering and jeering as men (and women) beat each other up in the middle of a ring. As I grew older, I realized that it was all scripted, basically a bloody telenovela. However, I will still watch it when I have the time, and it will always have a spot in my heart because it was a huge part of my childhood, and there are certain things that all of us wrestling babies can relate in.
1. John Cena is more than a meme
Who hasn't heard the John Cena prank call? It's epic! (if you haven't, forget this article and GO WATCH IT). And the best part is that it sparked a sea of never ending memes. However, if you grew up with wrestling, you know him for his perseverance, slightly inappropriate raps, the AA (or FU), and "Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect" mantra. And if you're like me, you love him to pieces.
2. Dwayne Johnson will forever be "The Rock"
No matter how many Hollywood blockbusters he stars in, he'll just always be the eyebrow-raising, candy-ass kicking wrestler.
3. You wanted to be a Superstar/Diva when you grew up
Face it, this was the ultimate dream, and you were sure you were going to make it.
4. You had a faux WWE Championship
Whether it was DIY or store bought, you definitely had one, and you were damn proud to wear around your waist, feeling the king/queen of the world.
5. Your siblings and friends were your target practice
"Hey, let me put you in a figure four lock real quick! I promise it won't hurt!"
6. You learned to love and hate passionately
There was no one you loved more than your favorite wrestler (*cough* John Cena). They were the ultimate hero. On the other hand, you learned what hate was when someone hurt your favorite. HANDS OFF!
7. You still watch it
No matter how old you get, or how many people tell you that wrestling is fake, you still watch it. You might not be willing to admit it, but you know you do it.
