Everyone who works with kids shares a lot of things in common, here are just a few of them:
1. You use baby voice more often than you should.
You find yourself talking to people your age as if you were talking to your kiddos at work. People think you’re nuts but you spent 75% of your time there, so it’s just normal to you.
2. When you see kids in public you are automatically drawn to them and want to give them love.
Whenever you’re out and about and see a baby, you get all googly-eyed and if you have time, you always want to ask questions like how old they are, what’s their name, etc. (I always mention I work at a daycare so it doesn’t seem completely weird…)
3. You have baby fever no matter how many gross diapers you’ve changed, how many times you’ve been puked on or how many times a child has smacked you right in the face.
They’re gross and mean but more importantly, they’re fun, amazing learners, and have smiles and laughs that can brighten anyone’s day.
4. You’re not grossed out when puke and poop touches you.
Poop and puke won’t kill you! You get so used to it after a while you just don’t care. (Yet, spiders, bugs, and snakes still scare the shit out of me!)
5. You are the mom of your friend group.
You’re always making sure everyone is okay. You ask if they’re hungry, thirsty and what THEY want to do (because it’s usually up to the kid, not us!)
6. You always browse the baby/kid section at stores and gawk over how cute everything is.
Okay, this is seriously a weakness. I want to buy clothes and baby stuff for a child I don’t even have! I obsess over cute outfits and crib sheets…it’s a little ridiculous.
7. You discover a love in you that you give to others that you haven’t had before working with kids.
This is the best and the most important part; babies and toddlers show you love and affection like no other. They bring out the child in you that we always seem to miss as we become adults and have to deal with real life. There is no love like a child’s love, even if you just work with them.
