Because Going to Classes and Studying Politics Doesn't Take Up Enough of your Time as is

USA Today

1. Scandal

A professional "fixer," gladiators in suits, a presidential affair, secret government agencies. Olivia Pope is the "boss bitch" every woman strives to be, forever flawlessly pulling off a white trench coat while taking on the men of Washington. There is also a love story to be seen here, but I won't give that away, but for the record, I'm #TeamFitz all the way.

2. West Wing

This show focuses on the work and personal lives of the staff of the President of the United States. It is kind of an older show, but one of the best political dramas I have seen on Netflix, as the amount of sarcasm in this show is quite beautiful honestly. Binge away, there are seven seasons.

3. House of Cards

Congressman Francis Underwood is the brutally honest narrator of the show that describes his efforts to gain revenge after being double-crossed. This plays on everyone's stereotype of the corrupt public official and what really goes on backstage in Washington.

4. Madam Secretary

I recently discovered this hit on Netflix and became absolutely addicted. A former CIA operative is recruited by her old CIA director, now the president of the United States, to become Secretary of State after her predecessor dies under suspicious circumstances in a plane crash. Secretary McCord, the lead in the show, is a character that everyone can come to adore, unlike the actual Secretary in which she was rumored to be based on... *cough cough* CLINTON.

5. Designated Survivor

This show is new to air on ABC, but has delivered amazing episodes within the few weeks since its premier. After a bombing obliterates the US government during the State of the Union Address, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is made POTUS after being asked to resign and accept another position only hours before.

6. How to Get Away With Murder

This show is not directly about the political world, however it does focus on many aspects of the law. Being that I am considering law school after graduating, like many other political science majors, I know many of us can appreciate this show. Plus, it is written by Shonda Rhimes, aka the writer of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. I mean, Viola Davis plays the main character and if that doesn't tell you how good this show is, I don't know what will.

7. Game of Thrones

Based off the bestselling series of the same name, Game of Thrones is a fantasy show on HBO that focuses on the struggle for power over the land of Westeros. If you haven't been swept up into the GoT fandom, I highly encourage you to invest in HBONow and binge your heart away. Although, I must warn you not to get attached to any character, because there is a good chance they are going to end up dead. No one is safe. The Red Wedding killed me. That is all.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
