My mom was my role model before I even knew what that meant.

As I get older day by day, I realize that my mom is not only the best friend I have ever had, but she is also my biggest supporter. Her constant support, even when I fail a test, make a mistake, or call to tell her I am dropping out of school and picking up napping as a career, reminds me just how much love she has for me regardless of who I am or what I do. When I become a mother myself, I hope to be at least half of the mom she is, and love someone else so much more than myself like she does for me.

1. She will love you, regardless of if you put on the "freshman 15" and spend your Friday nights eating pizza in bed alone.

Let's be honest; college and food go hand in hand. Sometimes the only reason I go to events is for the free food. And even still, my mom loves me like a bikini model.

2. She will always think your ideas are awesome and support you, even if the world doesn't agree.

Every once in awhile you come up with an idea that's the best thing since sliced bread, and your mom will always agree. Even if the world doesn't see the masterpiece in your idea, she will.

3. She always has a place ready for you and arms wide open when the world is too much to handle.

There are days when only a "mom hug" will make everything in the world well again,; you can always call and she will have your bed made and your favorite ice cream and spoon on the counter.

4. She will always help you make the biggest life decisions and support you, even if it means living at home forever.

Sometimes I call my mom after a hard day in class to tell her I am dropping out of school to become a professional napper (the only thing I enjoy and am good at) and she always responds "don't forget to bring your teddy bear with you".

5. She will always be overly excited to tell everyone you are her daughter.

Even when you are embarrassing yourself on the court, on stage, or a hobby you know you just aren't the greatest at, she will always tap the person next to her to tell them how wonderful she thinks you are.

6. She will love you regardless of the test you failed, mistake you made, or bad judgement call you were responsible for.

Mistakes are inevitable, and while some people walk away to leave you to wallow in your own shame, your mom will always sit down next to you and remind you how awesome you are and how much she loves you.

7. Your mom will always love you, period.

Your mom is irreplaceable, no one could ever give you the love, care, and support you need like your mom. Having someone love you more than themselves, and someone who is willing to give up the whole world in return for your happiness is the best kind of support.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
