For those of you who are unaware, Netflix recently dropped a new original series called "Big Mouth." Written by Nick Kroll and featuring comics like John Mulaney, Jordan Peele, and Fred Armisen, the show gives us all a trip down memory lane to the wonderful time known as puberty. This animated show honestly illustrates all the joys of growing up, but in a humorous way. Still not sold? Here are 7 reasons you should be watching "Big Mouth."
1. It is incredibly honest
A big premise of the show is that the characters have "hormone monsters" who follow them around and cause them to do things like scream at their parents, not feel beautiful, or just other stupid teenage things. I can't speak for everyone, but I know when I was that age, I definitely felt like I had a hormone monster following me around.
2. It features funny songs
Step aside "Bob's Burgers." Each episode has a song that deals with some theme discussed in the episode. In episode three, "Am I Gay?", the ghost of Freddie Mercury comes back and sings a song all about how it's okay to be gay and have those feelings.
3. It focuses on both boys and girls
Some episodes are dedicated to the boy's issues. Some episodes are dedicated to the girl's issues. Either way, this show covers puberty from both sides of the coin.
4. It is very sex-positive
In episode five, "Girls Are Horny Too", the episode is all about the fact the girls are discovering their budding sexuality as well. So many discussions only focus on the male side of the spectrum, so it's nice to see that girls' sexuality is discussed as well.
5. It focuses on bigger issues as well
Underage drinking and rape culture? Episode eight. Family problems? Episode nine. Teen pregnancy? Episode six. Not only do these episodes dive deep into big issues, the other episodes tackle issues such as racism and other cultural issues on a smaller scale.
6. It breaks the fourth wall without being cheesy
During the show, there are so many moments where the characters both acknowledge that they are in a TV show as well as on Netflix. However, when this happens, it isn't your typical cheesy fourth wall breaks.
7. It's easily binge-able
Ten 30-minute episodes means a funny and relatable Saturday evening for you.
