7 Reasons Why Your Dog Is Your Best Friend

Let's face it, they are better than humans.

Having at least one dog in my home since I was born has made me the ultimate dog person -- no cats allowed. It's quite possible that one day I'll be the wife that comes home with a new puppy every week (because my mom won't let me do that now).

Personally, I think dogs are the most wonderful pet to have. They can be trained to do so many amazing things and would die protecting their family. It has always been said that a dog is a man's (or woman's) best friend, and here are the reasons why!

1. They are happy. All the time.

A dog might just be the happiest animal on the planet. They are excited 99.9 percent of the time. Whether they are waking you up in the morning, greeting you at the door when you come home, or chasing squirrels, they do it with those big toothy dog smiles (usually with their tongue hanging out). The only time they can possibly be sad is waiting for you to return home.

2. They make you feel important.

If you come home after a particularly horrible day, you can always count on your dog to be there at the door, bouncing off the walls and doing their happy dog dance. If this doesn't make you feel like a celebrity, nothing will. They want to jump on you, slobber on your face, and play with you. Lets face it, it's better than coming home to people.

3. There is no judgement.

Your dog doesn't care how you look or smell. You can sit in the same clothes for five days straight and smell like you spent a week in a garbage can and they won't judge you even a little bit. As long as they get food and some outdoor time, they don't expect anything from you.

4. You have the ultimate cuddle partner.

Who needs a boyfriend when you have a dog? Whether you're laying on the couch watching Netflix all day, or you need a companion to fall asleep by your side, your dog is always your go to cuddle buddy. They'll love you a little extra if you scratch their tickle spot!

5. Exercising is more realistic with them.

If you're like me, you rarely make it to the gym because the motivation to go just isn't there. However, when your dog is begging to go outside and play, you just can't say no! Long walks or runs are so much better with your faithful pal. They need the exercise just as much as you do and having them around makes the process a little less painful.

6. They do the funniest things.

You'd be lying if you said that your dog doesn't make you laugh at all the silly things they do. They roll around on their backs with all four legs in the air, they walk around with their long tongues hanging out, and some like to talk! I'm constantly capturing pictures and videos of my dog because not only does she do goofy things, but she loves having her picture taken.

7. They are game for adventures of any kind.

You can always count on your dog to hop in the back seat of your car and go anywhere at any time. They'll love going to the store just as much as they love going to the beach (especially if they get attention from strangers and get to sniff everything). Anything that involves spending time with you, they will enjoy. Really, they're the ultimate boyfriend.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
