7 Reasons Why You Want To Drop Out of College

We've all googled what jobs you don't need a degree for.

7 Reasons Why You Want To Drop Out of College

We've all had the same thought at least four times during our college career:

"I'm going to just drop out."

Hey, Bill Gates dropped out of college and look how well he did! But alas, no matter how many ways we rationalize it, we will all stay and tough it out for as long as we need to to get that degree. I've compiled a list with suggestions from my friends of different reasons why we want to drop out of college.

1. When your professor goes from 'Syllabus' to 'Chapter One' on the first day of classes.

The immediate groan that is released from every student in the class should be a clear enough sign to the professor to not do this.

2. When you pay so much money for a parking pass and can't find a spot.

Everybody's inner vulture comes out when you've circled the same lot six times hoping someone has finally left. Some days you just really wish there were less people in this world.

3. When there isn't a single open seat in the Library.

You finally gather enough motivation to haul yourself and your books off to the library. You're pumping yourself up about all the work you're going to get done and you walk in and there's no seats. Like your hopes and dreams, your motivation is crushed.

4. The Dining Hall food makes the Freshman 15 a reality.

There are days when you really don't feel like making your own food. So why not watch someone else make it? With the number of healthy choices severely lacking, it makes it hard to stay on a balanced diet.

5. Having to walk to class in six feet of snow.

Face it, there are days when you really really don't want to go out and brace the cold. But, you might get to watch someone slip on the ice. Hopefully it's not you.

6. When you can't even understand your professor.

It's tough enough to try to understand calculus, but when you throw in a professor that talks too quiet, speaks a different language, or just doesn't know how to explain the material, it makes the subject that much harder. Why go to the class if you can't even grasp the concepts?

7. When your professor is 14 minutes late and then shows up.

For most, if not all colleges, if your professor is fifteen minutes late your class is basically cancelled and you can leave. There's nothing like having the pure excitement of watching as the minutes tick by with still no professor in sight only to have them walk in at the last minute.

Overall, no matter how many times we groan, complain, or party too hard, we will always show up to class. Even though there are times when it seems like the only solution is to drop out, we never will- no matter how many times we say it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
