It can be tough trying to find the right school. Some may start with the initial Google search, taking into account how pretty the campus looks in images, perusing some reviews, or just finding the acceptance rate. Maybe you’re still not sure if it’s worth your time to apply or visit the campus. While I can’t help you decide on every school out there, I can give you an honest review of my school, Grove City College. So, after much thought and deliberation, I’ve put together a list of why you shouldn’t attend Grove City.
1. For starters, this school is full of motivated students, the kind that put studies first and aren’t into partying on the regular.
In fact, Business Insider calls the school an “intellectually stimulating environment and a tight-knit community” with students who, upon entering, have an average math+verbal SAT of 1202. I don’t know about you, but this kind of fact just puts me to sleep. Why study in college to get a good job when you can party and pay for it later in loans?
2. In conjunction with this last reason, Grove City is ranked as one of the “Top 20 Best Career Placement Services” in The Princeton Review.
That’s just annoying, way too over-achiever-y. There’s just too much of a focus on careers as even freshmen are encouraged to start checking out the Career Services within the first few weeks. I’ll eventually get a job after college, even if that means living with my parents for three or five years while I’m still looking for one.
3. Besides the Career Services being all up in your business about your future, the faculty here cares about you.
At least five different adults this week told our class that if we ever just need to talk, their doors are open to us. It’s like they want to know us as people, and they care about our character. Weird, I know.
4. Along with that, the RAs that they pick are super intentional about getting to know you.
They organize events for your hall and if they catch you in the hallway, they’ll delve deeper than small talk because they care about you. I’m pretty sure most people just want to live solitary lives with nobody looking out for them, so this one is pretty self-explanatory.
5. Speaking of people getting to know you, it’s not that hard to get to know people here.
The last I checked, this school size is about 2500. Just great -- I did not ask for such a small and (as mentioned before) close-knit community. I’d prefer to just be a number in a school with 30,000, please.
6. Despite the small size, activities and events are always going on.
Ranging from Student Government sponsored events to going on a trip with your club to checking out the chapel or lecture with famous speakers on campus, something is out there for everyone. Too much stuff if you ask me. Who needs all that extra “enriching” stuff when college should just be for me to eat ramen, watch netflix, and procrastinate?
7. Finally, on the lines of activities and things to do, Grove City is fifteen minutes from the Premium Outlets.
Ranked as one of the top 20 outlet malls in the US with over 130 stores, it’s bound to be a boring waste of time. I mean, who even goes shopping?
Hopefully, I have given you a list of compelling reasons why not to attend this school. With all the disadvantages and setbacks of a school like this one, it’s a pretty obvious x off your list of potential schools. Its plethora of opportunities for growth and people who care about you is just a turnoff to most folks. So although you’ve eliminated this one, I wish you success in your search for the right college.
