As many of us know today, there are more and more shows available for viewing through TV and streaming services, some of which you've never heard of. "Schitt's Creek" is one of those shows you may not have heard of but most definitely should take a look at. Starring Eugene Levy ("American Pie") and his son Daniel Levy alongside veteran actor Catherine O'Hara and more, this Canadian comedy is pure gold. Similar to the humor found in films like "Best in Show," "Waiting for Guffman," and "This is Spinal Tap," "Schitt's Creek creates a commentary on modern personalities and embraces the ridiculousness of it all.
Created by Daniel Levy, "Schitt's Creek" is the show about a wealthy family who finds themselves asset less after being screwed by their business manager in a Bernie Madoff-esque scheme. Due to the unforeseen fate, the Rose family is forced to move to the only asset they retained, a small hick town in a quaint countryside aptly named "Schitt's Creek."
The first two seasons of the show are available for streaming on Netflix and airs on the channel Pop, the series is in it's third season and consistently inspires laughter. In order to appreciate the humor of the show, you need to understand that the Rose family and all of the characters otherwise introduced are meant to be exaggerations of their stereotypical personalities. The absurdities of it all are what make this intelligent and snappy comedy great.
1. The Rose's are new to real life.
As a former family of privilege, the Rose family is experiencing a range of real life moments, some of which include but are not limited to hangovers...
2. Every time someone opens their mouth, you learn a little bit more about them.
The dark horse of this truth revealing is Alexis, whose stories of foreign kidnapping memories reminiscent of "Taken" is something the rest of the family greets with nonchalant surprise.
3. Moira's unapologetically bold wardrobe choices.
As a former soap star, Moira is a woman not afraid to embrace looks that people wouldn't normally dream of attempting. She also has a wall of wigs, just saying.
4. David and Stevie are friendship goals.
As one of the more down to Earth Roses, David is balanced out by an equally sassy Stevie who serves as the Motel concierge and key confident.
5. Roland is the most unaware individual ever.
From his initial introduction to more recent episodes, Roland is a character that captures the unfortunate obliviousness of social graces and beyond.
6. Every time a character's delusional self image is presented.
Even though the Roses have lost all of their money and have been forced into moving into a dumpy motel in a town with a lack of familiar amenities, they regularly seem to forget it.
7. The fact that you cannot not love the Rose family and the rest of Schitt's Creek.
Their dynamic might not be conventional, but what two families are exactly the same, and for that you can't help but love them.
