The holiday season can sometimes be home to high-stress levels and reeling tension dreaded by all. The stress of buying gifts and figuring out dinner plans is over, but now a new stress lurks, and it's less than a week away! That's right, we're talking about New Years. Figuring out your resolutions and where you're going to be when the ball drops is stressful, but I am going to point out some reasons why the pros of New Years outweigh the cons.

1. Two Words: Fresh Start

While you cannot actually hit the reset button on life, the new year gives us all a chance to mentally and emotionally give ourselves a fresh start. You can make a change in your life and it's perfectly acceptable, in fact, it's encouraged!

2. Reminiscing

Times of great change bring about some of the greatest realizations! The new year tends to make people remember the journey they embarked on within the past year; the ups, the downs, the good, and the bad.

3. Resolutions

Hearing about the resolutions that people create for themselves can give you a lot of insight into who they are and who they wish to be. Do they have a more serious resolution or just something they made up as a joke? Do they even have a resolution at all? Whatever the case, resolutions are just fun to hear about!

4. Plans! Plans! Plans!

If you are like me, making plans can be extremely stressful. I like to know my plans ahead of time. To me, structure is key. However, a full night of fun is definitely worth a little bit of stress! There's nothing quite like being with people you care about and ringing in the New Year! Whether you celebrate more quietly with your family, or go out and rage with your friends, it is sure to be a good time.

5. Movies

Every year it seems like I am watching a trailer for a movie that looks absolutely fantastic, and at the end of the trailer, the words "coming New Years," show up on the screen. Now this does not mean I am going to go to the movies on New Years, but at least I have something to look forward to and I know what I'm going to be doing a couple days after the holiday!

6. The Razzle Dazzle

Okay ladies and gentlemen, let's bring out the glitter and confetti! New Years is a night when people dress the nines and ready for the newest post on Instagram. It's always fun when you have an occasion to get dressed up and go out!

7. The Countdown

Everybody loves a good countdown, and what countdown is more highly anticipated than the one counting down to a new year? It's simply amazing to just think about how millions of people are thinking the same thing as midnight approaches.. wow, another year in the books.

The holiday season is without a doubt stressful, but the new year can be the perfect time to leave that stress behind. Think of those resolutions, make those plans and get ready for the countdown. Bring it on, 2017!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
