This time of year, most people are already peeking around the corner for the hot summer months that will soon be upon us, but I think everyone should give the month of March a little more credit. With the gradual warming temperatures accompanied by the lingering gusts of the cold, winter air, I think March gives us a little taste of each season, which is refreshing to me, because let's face it, when the hot, humid months finally roll in, we would all give anything for a gust of cool air. But aside from the fabulous weather, I would like to touch on the variety of celebrations and holidays that March has to offer... some of which you may be unaware of.
1. National Peanut Butter Lovers Day (March 1)
If your obsession with peanut butter is anything close to mine, this day excites you more than most! I eat peanut butter at least once a day -- with anything from oatmeal, apples, on toast, in smoothies, or just by the spoonful. Needless to say, I am very pleased to know that there is one day out of the year dedicated to the smooth satisfaction of peanut butter.
2. Spring Break
After a hectic start to the spring semester, every college student loves when March rolls around, allowing us to finally go on the vacations we've had planned for months or simply relax and do nothing. Either way, spring break is definitely a highlight of March and quite possibly the year.3. St. Patrick’s Day (March 17)
Shamrocks, green beads, green beer, green everything! St. Patrick's Day is by far one of my favorite holidays because it's the one day dedicated to good luck, and how cool is that? Not to mention the fun festivities that are sure to follow like parades, face painting, or taking a traditional Irish car bomb!
4. National Puppy Day (March 23)
I don't know about you, but this national day came as a bit of a surprise to me, but I am totally OK with it. I'm not sure how one is supposed to celebrate this fine day in March, but I'm assuming it's day of giving your pups some extra love and attention or possibly Google imaging puppies to drool over if you don't actually have one to spoil (how I plan on spending it).
5. Easter
Whether you spend Easter going to a morning church service or indulging in the holiday's specialty candy like the Reese's eggs (my favorite), Easter is just one of those holidays that puts you in a good mood. Dyeing eggs fun, bright colors or accidentally dipping them in every color resulting in a nice greenish brown shade is all a part of the fun!6. Daylight Savings
There's something about the air getting warmer and the sun staying up longer that always gives me newly found motivation. I guess after experiencing cold weather with the sun setting at 5 p.m., the warmer, spring weather seems so inviting and rejuvenating to me!
Considering March is a month commonly set aside, I hope I gave you all a reason to appreciate it a little more. Remember to be patient (the summer months are coming!) and to always live life in the moment, never wishing the months away.
