7 Reasons Why I Love 'Big Brother'

Summer is everyone's favorite time of year. Vacations, warm weather and most importantly no school. Summer also means that Big Brother comes back on. Big brother is a reality-TV show where contestants compete against each other for $500,000! The catch? They are all in a house together for three months with televisions and microphones catching their every move. House-guests compete each week for the power of the house to nominate two people for eviction. It's a highly addicting show if you ask me. It's been around since 2000 and my family and I have probably been watching it since then. Here are seven reasons why I love Big Brother:

1)The Competitions

House-guests have to participate in a few competitions between H.O.H(Head of Household) P.O.V.(Power of Veto which can take someone of the block) and other competitions to seal safety for the week. The competitions are so intense but fun to watch.

2)The Evictions

Each week two house-guests are put up for eviction. Later on in the season they even sometimes do a double eviction. It's sad watching my favorite house-guest leave. But such a relief when the one I don't like gets a unanimous vote.

3)The Live Twitter Feeds

I recently came across a few Big Brother Twitter pages. @BigBrotherLeak and @CBSBigBrother When the show isn't on the page is filled with juicy gossip of what is going on in the Big Brother house!

4) When They Bring Back Old House Guests

As I said earlier my family has been watching Big Brother since the very beginning. My favorite thing is when they bring back house-guests from past seasons. Sometimes they'll have them host a competition or even play in the game! There isn't much better than drama from bringing back the ghosts of Big Brother's past.

5) The Alliance

Every season there are alliances that work and there are alliances that just completely fail. People join multiple alliances so they can play both sides of the house. But sometimes people don't even have alliances and they're call floaters.

6) The Diary Room

The Big Brother House has something called the Diary Room. This is where house-guests can talk about the other house-guests they don't like or reflect on the competition they just played in. Sometimes house-guests come to cry because they miss home.

7) Expect The Unexpected

Big Brother's motto is 'Expect the Unexpected' Literally anything can happen in the house so be prepared for anything. There has been a twin twist, America's player and this season they have changed the game to playing in teams! There's always something new happening each week.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
