7 Reasons Why I Hate Shopping

Yes, I am a girl who doesn't like shopping.

Most children dread when their mom tells them that they are taking a trip to the mall or the grocery store. They know it is going to be an endless eternity of walking, waiting, carrying heavy bags and trying not to get lost. Eventually, people tend to grow out of this phase as they begin to share their parent's appreciation for buying new things. However, I am not one of those people and there is nothing I hate more than going shopping. Here are the seven reasons why I hate shopping.

1. Spending Money

Ever since I could remember, I hated spending money. I think it steams from my mother being a shopaholic. She would buy anything and everything that remotely seemed like a good deal even if we had no use for it, or already had five of the same pairs of shoes at home. Watching her waste so much money made me put so much more thought into my purchases and as a result handing money over to a cashier is one of my most dreaded feelings. I mean, I worked hard for that money, why would I be so quick to lose it? I constantly think about the "what if" factor of shopping like, 'what if I find a sweater I like better in the next store?" or "what if I need money this weekend and I spend it all in Wet Seal?"

2. Shopping with Friends

Going to shopping with your friends always sounds like fun at first. You get to spend some quality time, and bond over new trends. Once you get there, you end up remembering why you haven't gone to the outlets with them since senior year. They walk throughout the stores slowly without a purpose, debate over every item in every store if they should get it, and always try to peer pressure you into buying that super cute maxi skirt with the crop top that would look so good with your skin tone. No thanks, I'll pass on your opinions and shop solo.

3. Finding the Right Size

When holidays and my birthday comes around, I can never ask people for clothes because I tragically am in between sizes. This prevents me from the luxury of online shopping because I have to try on all of my clothes before I can actually buy them. On the rare occasion I find a top that I fall in love with, I end up having to hunt down multiple sizes because I never know how it's actually going to look.

4. Fitting Rooms

Trying on clothes is another major reason why I hate shopping. The entire process of trying on clothes is just a huge struggle. First off there is always a line just to get a fitting room. Then, after standing there with your pile full of clothes they tell you you can only bring half of them in at a time which makes me have to scatter around trying to find my top picks to make sure I try those on first. When I finally make it into the fitting room, I'm so worn out that I have no energy to actually change a bunch of times to see my potential purchases.

5. Un-organization

Stores like Forever 21 give a girl who hates shopping like myself a ton of anxiety. I need a store that has all their shirts, dresses etc. separated by color, or style. Forever 21 is like my worst nightmare when it comes to shopping. All of my friends get the cutest outfits from there and here I am struggling to find a plain black t-shirt.

6. Finding the Perfect Item

Whenever I go shopping, it's for a purpose. Whether it's for a gift or an event, I know exactly what I'm going in the store for however nine times out of ten I don't come out with that item. I could literally walk into the mall in search for a white, lace, halter dress that I've seen 100 variations of, but when I need one, they're no where to be found.

7. Regret

Because of all of these reasons as to why I hate shopping, I usually never end up making any actual purchases. I might have seen a dress in H&M that I really liked, but talked myself out of it in the moment. The way I actually end up buying things is when I find myself thinking about the item and regretting it for a week or two and find myself making another trip to the store praying that they still have that item.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
