7 Reasons Why I Appreciate My Boyfriend

Not a day goes by where I don't feel extra special and lucky

I know it's cheesy and there's probably another person willing to fight me on this but... I have the best boyfriend. I feel extra special and lucky to be in a relationship where happiness is key and not a day goes by where I don't feel in love. There are so many things I need to acknowledge and thank my guy for so here are 7 reasons why I appreciate that special someone in my life.

1. His unconditional love

Not a day goes by where I'm not surrounded by tons of affection. No matter what changes, what gets taken away, or what's added in our lives, I know he will not leave my side. Our relationship is built on much more than material things or #couplegoals expectations. I caught a winner :)

2. His honesty

There's nothing I need more from someone than honesty. Lies and sneakiness are what tear down most relationships, but that's not something I need to worry about with him. Keeping it real with each other is what drives us closer together. I'm dating my best friend, so there's no reason the truth should hide in any situation.

3. His humor

Laughing so hard it hurts my stomach is something that never gets old. I could never be with someone who couldn't make me laugh or put a smile on my face. I'm so lucky to have someone who is genuinely funny, and actually laughs at my jokes (even if they suck, it's nice to see his effort).

4. His support

My number one fan. I couldn't do what I think is impossible without his undying support. I really am my best self with him because, well, he helps push me to be the best me I can. I owe some of my motivation to the man who cheers me on, no matter how stubborn I may be.

5. His respect

There's no way in hell a relationship can be healthy without respect. Once I learned this and accepted nothing less, I found my guy. He respects my morals, my choices, and most importantly, me. He doesn't go out of his way to hurt me and in return, I give him that same respect back.

6. His trust

Again, I haven't seen a relationship workout without this trait. If there's no trust then what is there? It's because we have mutual trust it's possible for us to live our lives separately. It's possible to go to different schools, hang out with different friend groups, and live far away without fear of someone straying away.

7. His patience

Last, but not least. If it wasn't for his patience, he would've probably run for the hills by now. He listens to me cry about classes, rant about friends, and of course, let's me pick out the movie we watch. Being in a relationship taught me that both parties have to have patience to please each other.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
