7 Reasons Why I Am The Grinch

The man you love to hate is really me.

Nearly everyone has seen Jim Carey as the Grinch (and if you haven't, shape up). He plays a grumpy, old... thing that hates Christmas. He hates it so much that he tries to steal it from the entire town of Whoville.

I am not a hater of the holiday (in fact, I LOVE Christmas), but there are definitely ways that I can relate to this green ball of fuzz.

1. Only a dog could live with me.

I am a whirlwind of emotions and very few human beings can deal with my attitude all of the time. I am 99.9% positive that the only creature that could ever keep me company for a reasonable amount of time is a dog. There's just something about the little fur balls that put me in a better mood.

2. I find defeating children in basic competitions completely satisfying.

Why else would I agree to play Tic-Tac-Toe or Candy Land?

3. I cut myself shaving.

This is probably the most relatable point I have. I cut myself shaving nearly every time I decide to bring a razor to my leg. This has elevated to the extent of me having a permanent scar on the inside of my right ankle.

4. I would like a check.

If you're a college student and you don't agree with me, I don't know if we can be friends.

5. My Christmas wrapping skills are on point.

Perfect edges? Check. Paper pattern lines up? Check. Name tag matches paper? Duh. Big bow and ribbon each box? Check, check, check.

6. I seclude myself from people because I've been treated bad in the past.

If I had a cave to hide in, I would never leave. Unfortunately, I live in dorms and people are either knocking on your door or screaming at someone else in the hall. I don't even hide from the people that have treated me bad; most of those people are at home, an hour away from me.

7. I steal other people's food.

Whenever I go to Walmart, I always tell myself that I don't need more food. My roommate, on the other hand, always gets food and has a stockpile. The consequence of this is that I always (yes, always) take some of her food. It somehow tastes better than when I buy it myself.

Maybe this is just me, but I believe there is a little Grinch in all of us.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
