As a lover of dance and musicals, my grandma decided to take me to go see "La La Land." I've heard a lot about it, especially that Ryan Gosling was one of the stars (so hot), and decided to take the trip to go see it. I was not disappointed by this movie, it was probably one of the best I've seen in awhile. Here are 7 reasons why you should go see "La La Land."
1. Ryan Gosling.
Gosling, who spent hours learning how to play the piano for this role, nailed the whole "angsty wannabe jazz musician" vibe. You could really see his dedication to his character, Sebastian. His dancing was also on point.
2. Emma Stone.
I've seen Emma Stone in a few movies prior to "La La Land," but I was blown away by her performance. She truly committed herself to Mia and you fell in love with the character. I went on a journey with Mia. Through her successes, her failures, falling in and out of love, Stone did an amazing job. Both Stone and Gosling deserved their Golden Globes.
3. John Legend.
I had NO idea John Legend was in this movie, so when he showed up as his character Keith, I was really excited. Legend's vocals in "Start a Fire" melted my soul.
4. The music.
The soundtrack, composed by Justin Hurwitz , really pulled the whole movie together. "City of Stars," "Another Day of Sun," "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)," and tons more are incredible songs. Gosling and Stone even sang too, which I was unsure about at first, but ended up loving.
5. The dancing.
The opening scene to "La La Land" was one of the craziest productions I have ever seen. They actually shut down a freeway in LA to film this number, and it was so worth it. There was a lot of tap dancing and ballroom dancing scenes that were impressive as well.
6. The aesthetic.
As someone who studies film, the look of "La La Land" really pleased me. I loved the retro-modern feel. Before Mia talked on her iPhone, I thought this movie was set in the past. The bright and vibrant hues of the film made it extremely interesting to look at as well as all of the beautiful and creative transitions.
