It’s that time of the year again! The transition from summer to fall is muggy and depressing and school is in full swing. Whether it comes along with a huge exam, lack of sleep, or homesickness, stress can be incredibly overwhelming. Here are 10 reasons to keep on going during those moments of utter exhaustion:

1. All of fall’s treats and traditions

Fall itself is a reason to keep on going. The crisp autumn breeze is so refreshing, along with the new fall fashions and delicious pumpkin spice. Get some air and go apple picking to get your mind off stressful things. Fall makes life so beautiful.

2. Friends and family

The best people to spend time with during stressful times are your family and friends. Whether it’s a night out or a night spent by the fire roasting marshmallows, your family and friends are the perfect distraction from stress. Lean on them when you need to, that’s what they’re here for!

3. Relaxation

The most relaxing thing to do to get your mind off stress is to… well, relax. Get in comfy clothes, sit by the fireplace, make yourself some tea, and listen to your favorite music. You deserve a mental health day, make sure to take advantage of it.

4. Your favorite place

Sometimes mentally going to your happy place is the best cure for stress. Envision yourself lying on that beach, tanning and sipping on a Corona. Moments like that will relax your mind and remind you that there are happier times to come! Don’t worry, those times are around the corner, even though it may not seem that way.

5. Your favorite home-cooked meal

A good, home cooked meal will relax you instantly. It’ll bring back happy memories of traditions, which will calm you down and distract you from the stress immediately. On top of it all, eating delicious food with your family will be a refreshing treat if you’re away from home at school drowning in exams.

6. Treating yourself

Once in a while it’s nice and refreshing to reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve done. Go out and buy yourself a Venti coffee, treat yourself to a fancy dinner, or even pick out a new outfit. You deserve it!

7. Love

And last but not least, the number one reason why you should keep on going for anything is love. Love is the answer to everything, the perfect medicine, and the ultimate gift of life. There is no better reason to keep on going than love. Give love, receive love, it’s that easy. Bye bye stress, love is on its way.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
