After finishing up a whole year at school, more classes are the last thing on a college student's mind. However, completing summer classes could put you ahead and make your work load during the semester a little lighter. So before you write off the summer classes, here are some of the reasons I think summer classes may be the best thing ever.
1. Flexibility.
Whether you're planning to work full time in the summer or traveling abroad, summer classes give you the flexibility to travel without the worry of missing class. Many courses offer an online version of the class for people who are unable to be in a classroom setting for the summer.
2. Save money.
Yeah, you read that right. You can actually SAVE MONEY by taking summer classes, especially if they're through a local community college in your hometown. Taking summer classes can also save you and your parents money in the long run because of the opportunity to potentially graduate early.
3. Shorter duration.
Instead of sitting in a classroom for your normal 16-week course, summer classes range from five to 12 weeks, giving you more time to do other things, like spending time with family and friends.
4. Get ahead.
For many people, taking summer courses will put you ahead of the game. Summer is an awesome time to get ahead on your general education credits, while focusing on your major specific classes during the school year.
5. Catch up on credits.
And for the many students that might've had a little set-back during the semester, summer is the perfect time to catch up and retake a class that has been dropped in the semesters before. This way, these courses won't put you behind during the academic year.
6. Impress employers.
Enrolling and being successful in your summer classes put you ahead of the game when thinking about future employers. Taking summer classes is a great way to show your ambition and motivation to continue your studies during 'the fun part of the year'.
7. Keep your brain active.
Some people view summer as a time of rest and relaxation, but enrolling in summer courses could keep your brain active. Just like the rest of your body, the more you exercise your brain, the better you will perform!
