Here’s an unpopular opinion when you live up north: snow is the absolute worst.
I always hear people talk about how beautiful the snow is and how everything looks like a winter wonderland. I mean, I’m not gonna disagree, the snow can look pretty for about a day, but unless it clears completely, it can turn into a very unpleasant week. Not only does the snow not last long, but it causes so many problems if it does last. Very little can ruin my day, but waking up to 2 feet of snow definitely manages to put me in a foul mood.
1. It always gets muddy and gross
I don’t think there is anything more physically taxing than shoveling two feet of snow as more continues to fall. I honestly cannot think of a better way to be spending my day, and usually my whole day because that task takes a solid 36 hours.
3. It always happens on weekends
I don’t know what kind of joke Mother Nature is playing on us, but I’ve had enough of it. The 4 snow days I have had this year have either fallen on a weekend or a break. If it’s going to snow, we should at least get classes off.
4. One word: Ice
This is probably the aspect of snow that I feel extremely personally victimized by. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love starting my day by slipping and falling on a stretch of ice in front of 20 people.
5. Loss of power
Although this doesn’t happen every time it snows, when it happens it can turn a snow day around. There is nothing more agonizing than knowing you have lights, heating, and entertainment, yet not being able to use it because some tree decided to fall on a power line on one of the coldest days of the year.
6. It’s freezing outside
I don’t know how it happens, but somehow every time it snows I wake up in the North Pole. I understand the concept of snow and that there must be a specific temperature for it to occur, but maybe make that temperature a little warmer? Please?
7. You can’t drive anywhere
This is especially prevalent in high school, but having to stay cooped up in a house with your family can turn into the most agonizing experience. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but 48 hours of no contact with anyone other than them can get a bit tiring.
