It wasn't until I was 16 that I realized my sister was my closest friend and the first person I would choose to be part of my life if she wasn't part of my family. It wasn't until I was 16 that I realized my sister was the biggest blessing in my life. Big sisters are a gift from God, and here's why.

She's your first (and closest) friend.

Big sisters are LITERALLY in your life from day one; big sisters see you from your highest of highs and lowest of lows, all the while supporting you the best they can and promising you life gets better even if it seems it won't.

She tells you how it is.

Wondering if your outfit is wack? Ask your sister. Want to know if your boyfriend is a good guy? Your sister will have the answer for you. Big sisters always keep it real, because they've been in your position before and know how to handle it in a way that benefits you and your future. Sure, it may seem harsh but at the end of the day, it's just some much needed tough love.

She's your unconditional supporter.

No matter where, no matter when, your sister will always be in your corner supporting you.

Her closet is your closet

Sharing, stealing, borrowing or whatever you may call it, your sister's closest will always hold countless clothing items you wish you bought yourself.

She was your personal chauffeur.

Your sister got your license before you, which was a perk for herself and you because she was able to drive you all around town in her new car... even if she didn't want to.

She gave you someone to look up to.

More than likely, your sister set the precedent or standard of which you live your life. Without her guidance, you would lack a sense of direction regarding where to go when developing your character/self-image.

She gave you advice.

From applying to college, friends, dating, or dealing with parents, your sister was always there to offer sound advice because she went through the same exact things when she was your age and knows how important it is to have someone help guide you through tough times.

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
