Running requires incredible determination, and stamina. Every part of you must be fully committed. Every second of running trains every part of you, including your mind. It takes determination, and it requires everything you are capable of. But despite all the challenges, it’s the most satisfying activity I’ve ever participated in. What could make exercise so great?
1. It Teaches Self Discipline
The longer you run, the harder it becomes. Your legs become like lead, and you get bored. The determination that started out in the beginning ebbs away and begins to dissipate completely. To make your time, you have to learn to control all of that.

2. A Healthier Weight
Today, it is typically considered a severe issue among Americans. Unsurprisingly, running is an excellent way to lose weight. This type of exercise is best for 'burning' fat. Weight training is great, but it's not great for weight loss. It is best to begin with walking depending on how heavy a person may be, but running is a great option once walking has been pursued for some time.
3. Confidence From Progress
Consistent commitment to running leads to achievement. Eventually, the mile time begins to lower and 40 minutes of running does't seem all that long. By driving yourself to finish off that last mile, and making it, you realize you are capable of things you thought you could never do when you started out.
4. A New Social Crowd
Runners make up their own sector of the population. You become a member of a whole social group in an activity that's beneficial for everyone. Running becomes something to bond over with other people, and you become a part of "them". It's something that often helps people find friends and others to bond with.
5. A Healthier Heart
Weight loss is not the only health-related reason to run. Quite often, people have ignorantly asked me, "You run? But you're so thin!" It's not about weight for everyone.A thin individual can have a very sick heart compared to someone considered heavier. How? The arteries can become clogged with certain types of fat, and running gets the blood moving quickly enough to break these blockages. In a study of regular runners, it was discovered they typically had lower mortality rates.
6. Stronger Bones
Admittedly, running can cause injuries. However, running, because of the stress it puts on the joints and bones, causes them to become denser. When bones become more dense, injuries are less likely to occur.
7. It's Fun!
Maybe it won't be at first, for most it isn't. Running is a hobby in a sense, it doesn't have to just be a chore. Races are strenuous, but the end result is incredible. Not only does the body release adrenaline and endorphins ('happy chemicals') during physical activity, but so much more of the planet becomes more accessible. Areas of the world only visible to those in fit physical condition are now yours to explore. You can travel trails around your house and see incredible sights, like Kilgore Falls in Maryland's Rock State Park for instance.
Like anything else, it should always be performed at a healthy standard, and injuries should in no situations be ignored. But take precautions, and running can become a new hobby, social experience, and visual entertainment. Everybody can benefit from a few miles on their feet instead of behind the wheel.
