7 Reasons Why Having a Roommate Adds to Your College Experience

Coming into college, one of the biggest concerns is "Who is my roommate going to be?" Some are lucky enough to find a best friend, while others, not so much. Hopefully you're one of the lucky ones.

  1. Their closet is your closet

And who doesn’t like having double the clothes to choose from? When you have a roommate, what’s theirs is yours and what’s yours is theirs, right?

  2. Someone to help you with the freshman 15

As if trying to maintain your weight at college wasn’t hard enough. Now you always have someone to take a Wendy’s trip with at 2am.

  3. You’re always peer pressured to go out

You were probably thinking that you were going to stay in and binge watch Friends all night, not anymore. Having a roommate forces you to go out and have fun, but at the end of the night, you’re grateful for that.

  4. Sleeping is no longer a thing

Whether you’re up all night laughing until you cry or helping each other with homework that you’re both stuck on, you’re guaranteed to be sleeping a lot less.

  5. Always having someone to tag-a-long

Need to go to Dunkin’, or the mall? It’s basically guaranteed that your roommate will always go with you to run errands or drive around for no reason.

  6. A shoulder to cry on

No matter if it’s the smallest or biggest of things, they will always be there for you. They know when something is wrong even before you do.

  7. They become your family

That stranger that was also moving into your room on the first day of school is now your best friend, partner in crime and sister that you never had, but you wouldn’t change it for the world.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
