The common belief almost everyone on the planet has accepted is that "dog is man's best friend". While I adore dogs and have had a few that I loved dearly, my cat has stayed by my side for almost ten years, and call me crazy but our bond is strong beyond words.
1. She needs as much attention as I do...
... and we are here to give it to one another. She cries and pats at me to be pet, and I ask her to sit on the couch with me.
2. She knows when I am upset.
Animals have a way of knowing when their humans are not okay, and my cat refuses to leave me when I am emotionally and/or physically troubled.
3. She acts as my alarm.
When I need to get up in the morning is around the time she gets hungry, and she hops right on my chest to meow and pat at my face until I leave my room. Once I am up, I stay up, all thanks to her neediness.
4. She feels the same way towards people as I do.
Just like me, she is skeptical of most people and shows so by hiding. She also loves the people I love, which is shown by how comfortable she is acting herself around them.
5. She misses me when I am gone.
When I leave the house for extended periods of time, she runs down the stairs crying to see me and must cuddle with me the rest of the day.
6. Her personality is differential.
She has her quirks that let her individuality set her apart from other cats. She is just like me: chill as hell to the rest of the world, silly as a child to those closest to her.
7. She accepts me and loves me unconditionally.
People come and go in my life and change their opinions about me for whatever reasons, but no matter what I go through and how I act, Pep looks at me and acts the same way she always has: with love and understanding.
It is so widely accepted when people say their dog is their best friend, but when I say my cat is my best friend, I get laughed at and called a crazy cat lady. I think regardless of species, animals are capable of tremendous love that matches the human they are with.
