Breakfast: the meal that could make or break your day. Unfortunately, most weekday mornings don't allow for more than a quick bite. What's one of the best options for those situations? Cereal, of course!
There you sit with your bowl, milk, cereal of choice, and spoon. Now, most people will probably reach for the box of cereal first and then pour their milk. I used to be one of those people before I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, but I stand (er, write?) before you today as a changed woman: the milk should be poured before the cereal, and here's why.
1. The sogginess factor is KEY
Sorry, but if I wanted to eat something of that consistency, I'd eat oatmeal (no hate for oatmeal here by the way; just using it as an example). If you're a fan of your cereal being crunchy, then doesn't it make sense to be able to start eating it right away before it becomes all squishy and slimy?I'm looking at you, Fruity Pebbles.
2. It's more efficient
Sure, we may only be talking about a matter of minutes here, but that's beside the point. When I'm preparing my breakfast, I like to get out everything I need at once. Once the milk is in the bowl, I can put it back in the fridge and keep the box with me on the table. Boom! Less breakfast time stress!
3. You can sit down and enjoy the meal
In reference to the two previous points, I consider it very important that I can take my time eating; I don't like being rushed out of the fear of my food getting soggy! Obviously, this isn't always possible in the middle of a busy morning, so they become a bit more pleasant when the cereal's consistency is just the way I like it.
4. You might do it without thinking anyway
Picture this: you pour yourself a bowl of cereal however you choose to eat it. Once you've finished it, you decide you want more, so what do you do? You grab the cereal and pour more into your remaining amount of milk! There's absolutely no difference!
P.S., if you pour the milk out in this situation and repeat your original process, then that's what I call a WASTE.
5. Overflowing was never an issue
One of the counterarguments to my stance is that the milk will overflow after the cereal is poured. I don't believe this is a problem; I always just estimate how much I need. Plus, if you find yourself faced with too much milk, then only pour a small amount of cereal or drink some of the milk beforehand.
6. You'll never again pour a bowl of cereal before realizing the milk container is empty
You have to admit; this is sound reasoning. Luckily, using my method of cereal consumption makes this problem a thing of the past! You'll know right away if you're out of milk before you're sat down with a bowl of dry cereal.
7. You won't wake anyone up
Confession time: there is something about the sound of cereal hitting a glass bowl that reminds me of simpler times. However, this isn't ideal when you're living in a dorm and trying to not wake up your roommate while you eat breakfast. Trust me: there won't be nearly as much noise.
Now go forth and eat breakfast like a champion!
