1. She is not afraid to be herself.
She is ruthless and all around wonderful. She takes risks and she never apologizes for the outcome. I don't know why she would anyway because it is always perfect. She makes all women see that being weird is absolutely normal. No one should let social norms stop them from being their hilarious selves.
2. She has paved a new direction for females in comedy.
She is not afraid to be more physical in her comedy. That type of comedy was usually reserved for males (like Chris Farley) before she hit mainstream comedy movies, but she has made it possible for a new wave of females to be unapologetically funny without another wall standing in their way.
Not only that, but she has just accepted the award for Comedic Genius at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. Which makes sense, seeing her line of roles in "Bridesmaids", "The Heat", "Tammy", "Identity Thief", "Mike and Molly", "Spy", "Hangover III" and now her upcoming movie, "The Boss".
3. She is nice to everyone. Including her haters.
She has constantly been ridiculed for her weight. Not her acting or her personality, but solely due to her weight. People have tried to nitpick at her for years and now that she has lost weight people are trying to find reasons to harp on her for that. She can't seem to catch a break.
In an incident with a critic that goes by Red Rex who reviewed "Identity Thief", he attacked her for her weight in the movie. Melissa did not retaliate in any way and simply shrugged it off. No one should have that kind of negative influence in their life and she handles it with grace and humor.
4. Her marriage is the real #goals relationship.
She is married to a man by the name of Ben Falcone. He has made an appearance in many of her movies. You may recognize him as the man she made out with at the bar in "The Heat", the man in the plane she flirts with in "Bridesmaids" who ends up being an Air Marshal, and as the man who asks her for directions in a very intense scooter chase scene in "Spy". Although you may also know him as the denim guy in that Target commercial from a decade ago. Yes. That is him.
They have two beautiful daughters and a loving relationship that has lasted throughout their careers as actors. They are also hilarious together and when they are together it is easy to see how genuine their love is for one another. Plus, who wouldn't want to have their spouse with them at work everyday? Maybe not everybody, but they make it work.
5. She has loved herself through thick and thin.
She has been many different sizes throughout her life. Big or small, she is herself and she is absolutely beautiful. It adds to her humor, but when she lost the weight it did not take away from it either. She herself is a gorgeous and hilarious human being with or without the added weight.
In her article for Redboook she encourages everyone to love the body they have and to take care of it. She is saying there is an epidemic for young girls and she would rather be punched in the face than have her daughters feel sorry for themselves about the way they look. She promotes body acceptance which girls in this generation need.
So in a world drowning with images and references of how women should look or act, she is proud to be the person she is in the body she was given. She even is stating her own clothing line for women in a range of sizes to feel more comfortable with themselves and how they look.
6. She has worked for her big break.
Not many people know that she had a role in the show "Gilmore Girls" as the character Sookie before any of her breakout roles. She actually plans to go back to the show again pretty soon! Although, before her big breakout roles in "The Heat" and "Bridesmaids", she had many small roles.
This just goes to show that no matter how hard you work that your talent will shine through if you stay driven and focused on your dreams in life.
7. Her role models are just as amazing.
Not only is her mom one of her role models, but so is Ellen DeGeneres, the first female to be called over to sit with Johnny Carson. If you were to have any female role model in the comedy industry it should be her. She not only revolutionized comedy for females, but she is a homosexual female to add to that. Ellen struggled a lot to get where she is today, and Melissa is just as groundbreaking of a female comedian for our generation, so having her as an idol only makes sense.
