Don't get me wrong, I love spending every second I can here at school with all my friends. However, there is nothing that can top being home for me. So here we go, ten reasons why I love going home.
1. Home Cooking
There is nothing quite like home cooking, especially when you have been away at school for a while. That first meal back home will always satisfy everything that you have been craving. Even though I live in my own apartment and can cook what I want, I realistically can't cook whatever I want. I'm good for chicken thighs and eggs. If you don't want that, you probably shouldn't come for dinner. That's what my dad is for. When I am home, he whips up just about anything that I want, and that's what keeps me coming home.
2. Laundry
I hate doing laundry. We all hate doing laundry. But, when I go home, I can usually persuade my mom to help out. As strange as it may sound, my mom does laundry like it's nobody's business. It's perfect. For some reason, even though I use the same detergent, my clothes smell and feel so much better when washed at home. And to top it off, my mom folds clothes better than anyone on the planet, and that's just a proven fact. Thanks Ma!
3. Pets
Back home we have the coolest cat I've ever met. She may be a bit overweight, but she has the personality of a dog and that makes her awesome. Even though I have my dog up at school with me, it's still nice to get back home and see our other pets once in a while.
4. Seeing Friends
A lot of my friends go to school in New Jersey, so I try to see at least one of them each time I go home. It doesn't always happen, but I give it my best shot. It's always nice to catch up with these friends because most of them are some of my best friends. Plus they go to colleges that aren't far from home which makes it a bit easier.
5. My Brother
In recent years, my brother and I have gotten much closer. We went from bickering 24/7, to bickering 18/5. That's one hell of an improvement, especially if you ask our parents. Once he got into high school, he also got into cars. This gives us one more thing in common that we are both very passionate about. Actually, I am heading home in a couple weeks to go to a car show with him, which I am sure we are both extremely excited for.
6. Family
Most of my extended family lives fairly close by in New Jersey so when I am home, we usually get to see my aunt and uncle. Just this past weekend when I was home, I got to go and see their new house and see what they are planning to do to the place. This is huge for me. Family is the absolute most important thing to me. This surprises me the most when it comes to some of my friends. They don't like going home because they have to see their family. That absolutely blows my mind. Your family should be the closest people to you.
7. My Parents
The best people on Earth. I could not have picked better parents for myself or my siblings. They always make sure we are taken care of, whether it be food or if we need to borrow a little cash to get through the week, they are always there. If there is ever an issue, they are the first people I call for advice. Tons of people I know would rather keep things from their parents than talk to them about it. While I agree for certain things, for the most part, I talk to my parents about anything because they will always have advice, even if it doesn't line up with how you are thinking. My mom and dad keep me sane and the dad jokes always make me crack up with a smile, no matter how dumb they are (way to go Dad).
There you have it. I know I'm a homebody, but I have good reason. I love being home and now you know why. Probably also explains why I can't wait to move back to New Jersey once I graduate and figure out what to do next from there.
