I used to really hate Amy Schumer, I thought she was a bit overrated and a lot too opinionated. I thought her comedy was too vulgar and unintelligent to be considered funny and I thought she promoted an unhealthy lifestyle of eating whatever you want and drinking like a sailor.
After watching Trainwreck in theaters and then a second time, listening to her comedy albums and watching her TV show Inside Amy Schumer I realized she is a hilarious, interesting individual, and here are my seven reasons I completely changed my point of view.
1. She does not give a shit what people think of her. She doesn’t care about the opinions of irrelevant people and she uses that attitude to generate good comedy.
2. She stands up against body shaming in a witty way. I don’t think she means to be an activist but she simply makes jokes about how silly beauty standards for women really are.
3. She took action when a shooting happen during her movie. She felt personally responsible to help those families who lost their loved ones.
4. She doesn’t try to fit in with the celebrity world: she makes a joke that her and her sister always go out in their sweatpants and the most unflattering photos surface of them. She laughs at herself and doesn’t take herself too seriously.
5. She is savage. When she roasted Charlie Sheen nothing was off limits to her, she took everything farther than needed to, which makes her that much funnier.
6. She’s a woman and she loves sex. And that’s okay. Actually more than okay. It makes her that much more real without her even trying.
7. She wants fellow female comics to succeed--it’s not a competition, they all help each other succeed and they’re all very funny.
Not to mention she’s hilarious, she’s vulgar and opinionated and it is awesome.
