There are so many reasons to celebrate the Fourth of July. It seems to be a holiday that everyone takes part in. You can see the youngsters gorging themselves with watermelon. The teens are busy wading in the water or hanging out with each other. The adults finally get the opportunity to put their feet up for a bit and have a drink or two. The grandparents are lazily enjoying their afternoon while doting over their grandchildren. It seems like on the Fourth of July, everything is right in the world. The sun shines a bit brighter, the birds chirp a bit louder and the smiles that appear are more genuine. The Fourth of July is for everyone and here are a few reasons why we love it so much!

1. College friends collide with high school friends.

What could be better than all your friends in one place? A whole new scene, partying with the old and the new has never been better.

2. Somewhere on a beach.

Or a boat, you are most likely catching up on Vitamin D under the sun in your favorite beach town.

3. Red, white and blue bathing suits.

Who doesn't love a festive bikini? Or forcing your boyfriend to wear the new Fourth of July trunks you picked out for him!

4. Hot dogs, hamburgers galore!

Your annual or daily meat intake always tastes better on the Fourth of July.

5. Amazing fireworks.

Finally time to make your move on that special someone. A midnight kiss under the illuminated sky? You are so in!

6. Drinks. A lot of them.

Whether you're drinking out of a watermelon filled with fruity vodka or throwing back one too many Coronas, you should never be thirsty during a worthy celebration!

7. A weekend to remember.

The Fourth of July is one of the best weekends of summer, maybe even the whole year. We always look forward to it, make your Fourth of July weekend one for the books!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
